Fox Sports Arizona:
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- The Cardinals sacked Cam Newton seven times, once for a safety, and intercepted him on three occasions to overcome a sluggish offensive performance and beat the Panthers 22-6 on Sunday.
Daryl Washington, back after serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, had two sacks and an interception for Arizona (3-2).
Calais Campbell had two sacks, one for the Cardinals' first regular-season safety in nine years and the other forcing a game-clinching fumble. Karlos Dansby also had two sacks and an interception.
The Panthers (1-3), playing for the first time since a 38-0 victory over the Giants two weeks ago, managed only Graham Gano's field goals of 22 and 51 yards.
Arizona's Carson Palmer threw for a touchdown but was intercepted three times.
BEST OF MAXIM
The Carolina Panthers (1-3) were optimistic entering Sunday’s contest at University of Phoenix Stadium against the Arizona Cardinals (3-2). They were coming off a bye week following a huge win at home against the New York Giants. But dropped passes and not protecting the quarterback ended their hopes, as the Cardinals won 22-6.

This isn’t a surprise at all, Rivera has never had the Panthers...
This will not be a play by play recap of the game, you could find that anywhere.
Instead this piece will spell out the positives and negatives from the 22-6 defeat at Arizona. (Hint, it’s just about all negative despite the few highlighted players)
Two career games, two interceptions. Frankly, he and Mike Mitchell have looked fabulous together. Robert...
Arizona Cardinals offensive players in the offseason had to learn coach Bruce Arians offense, formations, plays and concepts were installed, and there was a steady influx of information that would be added on the practice field. The Cardinals offense has gone in reverse the past two weeks, scoring 20 points, converting six of 23 third downs and committing five turnovers. Arians will...
Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith is still upset with the officiating in Carolina's 22-6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, calling a member of Sunday's crew ''garbage.''
The 34-year-old Smith took aim Monday at umpire Dan Ferrell, saying Ferrell was ''the sorriest referee I've ever met.''
Smith added that Ferrell ''received a check...
The set up couldn’t have been better. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was returning to University of Phoenix Stadium where he had led his Auburn Tigers to their first national championship since 1953. It was also the stadium where Newton had thrown for 422 yards in his first ever NFL start. That game was a loss, but it announced Newton’s arrival into the league and with a bang...
The former Midwestern State University guard Amini Silatolu has been amazing for the Carolina Panthers since being drafted by them. Well today after Silatolu left the game due to a leg injury, Cam Newton was sacked for a safety. The Panthers already miss his services. @NFL_ATL: Panthers guard Amini Silatolu out for the game due […]
It’s the start of the work week and another installment of our Overreaction Monday series. This weekend was saved by a stellar defensive performance by the Arizona Cardinals as they were the only team in the state to get a victory. The Arizona State University Sun Devils fell in a tough game to Notre Dame while the Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks lost on the road...
Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles received a shiny new toy just in time to face quarterback Cam Newton and the Panthers offense. That new toy was Daryl Washington, fresh off his 4 game suspension to start the season. Washington’s impact was swift and noticeable. In a must win for the Arizona Cardinals, the defense stood up and took control of the game, powering its way...
Steve Smith had a rough game on Sunday, but the Panthers’ wide receiver isn’t willing to shoulder all of the blame.
Smith recorded 60 yards on four catches, and was targeted a team-high 10 times during Carolina’s 22-6 loss to the Cardinals, but he thinks a certain referee had more to do with their defeat than his numbers.
Smith dropped a couple of key passes throughout the...
Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson gets to keep his wallet in his pocket this week as the NFL has deemed his hit on Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Jaron Brown was legal.
In reviewing the tape, league officials saw that Goldson delivered a shoulder-to-chest, not helmet-to-helmet hit, reported the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Unfortunately, Goldson was penalized 15...
Bruce Arians has 21 years of experience as an offensive coach in the NFL, yet his Arizona Cardinals are developing an image as a team that thrives on its defense.
The offense? Well, it still needs some work.
The Cardinals stifled the Carolina Panthers with a dominating second half in a 22-6 victory on Sunday. The Panthers' Cam Newton was sacked a career-worst seven times and...
Ideally bye weeks come in the middle of the season when NFL teams are battered and bruised and need time to get everybody back on the mend.
Not the case for the 1-2 Panthers. Their bye came at about the worst time possible — a week after a 38-0 thrashing of the Giants and only four weeks into the season.
That momentum may have partially subsided leading up to Carolina's road...
