PLAYERS: Derek Jeter
TEAMS: New York Yankees
And with this move Derek Jeter‘s nightmare season effectively ends. Jeter last played on September 7 so if he was DL’d retroactively he could theoretically make the last few games of the season (the Yankees have 17 games left). But that’s only if everything worked out perfectly for him. And nothing this year has worked out perfectly for him. He’ll end his season having played in 17 games with a .190 average and a lone homer and lone double his only real production. Jeter has a player option for 2014. It’s quite possible that he exercises it this winter and much in the way Marinao Rivera came back for a final year Jeter ends his career in action and healthy. But you have to wonder given how hard it has been for him to come back from last year’s broken ankle whether he is physically able to do so. And whether because of that he doesn’t contemplate retirement.

Will Derek Jeter be good again?

For the fourth time this season, Derek Jeter has been sidelined. There is no timetable for his return, and unless the Yankees reach the postseason — and there is still hope on that front — there is a decent chance that he will make no meaningful contribution to the team at all this season. Even […]

Jeter to DL, season over

Derek Jeter was placed on the disabled list today with ankle soreness, effectively ending his season. It’s been a hard year for the 39-year-old shortstop, who has called this season a “nightmare.” After breaking his left ankle in game one of the 2012 ALCS, he re-fractured it in March, strained his quad in July and then strained his calf in August. In just 17 games, Jeter went...

Reflecting Back 12 Years Ago

Do you remember where you were 12 years ago today? I do. I was in my second grade class with all of my friends just having a normal day like everyone else when chaos started to occur. Teachers went to meet outside to try and grasp what was actually going on. After the second plane hit it was clear that this was a deliberate attack against our nation. Was there more to come? Were...

Still doubt that Jeter will return in 2014

He is Derek Jeter so of course he was going to make it back for Opening Day. And when he refractured his left ankle the recalibration was to early in the second half — ahead of schedule for sure — to help save the Yankees’ season. Jeter wasn’t going to be stopped by quad and calf setbacks and even this latest ankle misery hardly diluted the belief that somehow some way he...
