Did Chip Kelly Blow A Chance To Lay Down The Law?

Posted July 24, 2013

Listening to Ike Reese today he was very critical about Chip Kelly not releasing the two rookies who cam in failed conditioning tests. You can read more here:

At first I agreed with Ike on this. I was like “set an example of somebody!” Then I considered the fact that all veterans haven’t reported yet. What happens if Chip lays the law down on these rookies and a veteran or two comes in and fails this test?  Suddenly Chip has painted himself into a corner. How can he simply excuse away veterans who come in out of shape if he isn’t going to excuse away the rookies on a roster where he himself said that he doesn’t have a depth chart yet? I still believe there will be an example made of someone in due time. Chip wisely chooses not to make it now. Making an example out of a player when all of the players aren’t quite in camp doesn’t send a great message especially if one of his better players comes in and fails the very same test. It’s clear Kelly isn’t working out of impulse with this team. He’s calculating everything and evaluating everything.  Everyone on this roster had better take notice.

5 Comments:
  • Make them run and run and run and run and run and when they drop pick them up and make them run.
  • LOL yeah I have no problem with that. I just think it would have been hasty to simply cut them like Ike was saying. Had Kelly gone down that route he really would have lost all credibility with his team especially if one of his drafted rookies or vets came in and failed the test.

  • LOL That's funny.
  • The Eales just claimed another running back off the waiver wire so maybe this issue will soon work it's self out.
