Faceoffs... OR To boo or not to boo.... OR.. Vanek's ice time... OR Miller swearing... OR Puck possession forwards... OR Some ******* in Colorado we should trade for that I've never heard of... OR Grigomania sitting in the press box.... OR Elite defenseman vs. elite goalie... OR How the Sabres are the biggest joke this side of the Hockey Heaven Purgatory. Bingo. I think I'll go with that one. The Buffalo Sabres are so pathetic that for a guy who thrives on arguing and putting people in their place about silly hot takes, I am a beaten man today. I can't muster the energy anymore to argue about insignificant things like the "Hot takes" I just mentioned. WHY? Because we've done this before. We've done the booing/Cheering argument, pro and con.  I've done the elite goalie vs. elite defenseman argument. I've done the effort argument. I've done the Lindy/Darcy or chick...

Classic Video (1980) - Lindy Ruff vs. Billy Smith

One of my favorite Lindy Ruff clips, and a childhood memory of mine when he was a player.  Ruff attacks Islanders goaltender Billy Smith after being highsticked during Game 6 of the 1980 Semifinals.

Buffalo Sabres fire head coach Lindy Ruff

Lindy Ruff was relieved of coaching duties after 16 years behind the bench in Buffalo. Image Credit: Rick Stewart, Getty Images For the first time in 16 years, the Buffalo Sabres will have a new head coach. Following the team’s dismal 6-10-1 start to the 2013 season that left them third last in the Eastern Conference and dead last in the Northeastern Division, Ruff was relieved...

After 26 Years, Lindy Ruff Is Done With The Buffalo Organization

from John Vogl of the Buffalo News, Lindy Ruff dreamed of holding the Stanley Cup in his adopted town of Buffalo. He pictured himself skating around Memorial Auditorium with the chalice over his head. He envisioned himself clutching the Cup on the bench in First Niagara Center. He held onto the dream for half of his life. Now he has to let it go. Ruff’s run in Blue...

Sabres Lose A Stinker

from John Vogl of the Buffalo News, This one is memorable because it was so utterly forgettable. “It was a terrible game by us,” defenseman Robyn Regehr said. “What we were missing was the effort from everyone, and I think the fans recognized that. They were voicing their displeasure.” The Sabres propped themselves up following Sunday’s one-goal loss to Pittsburgh...

Statement From Sabres Owner Terry Pegula

"The hockey world knows how I and the entire Buffalo Sabres organization feel about Lindy Ruff not only as a coach but also as a person. His long tenure with the Sabres has ended. His qualities have made this decision very difficult. I personally want Lindy to know that he can consider me a friend always."

Buffalo fires Ruff; Trotz now longest tenured coach in NHL…

The 6-10-1 Buffalo Sabres have lost four of their last five games, have the second worst power play in the league and have the worst face-off percentage (44.6%) in the NHL. If all that wasn’t enough, they just received word that their coach of 15 years has been fired. Lindy Ruff spent 1,165 games behind the Sabres bench. He was hired on July 21, 1997 and compiled a 571-432-78...

Lindy Ruff fired by Buffalo; Looking back at what was popular when he was hired

Lindy Ruff was relieved of his coaching duties today after the Buffalo Sabres' 6-10-1 start irked the home fans and apparently the ownership of the team. They're sitting at the bottom of the standings right now in the Northeast Division, and it's going to be hard to find a coach to replace Ruff. As it was mentioned by @CheckTheTicker on Twitter, there have been an amazing...

QCS Buffalo Water Cooler: Sabres Fire Ruff

This week’s Water Cooler features QCS writers Ryan Talbot. What’s your initial reaction to the Sabres firing long time head coach Lindy Ruff? The Sabres shocked the NHL on Wednesday after firing Lindy Ruff. (Photo: Kevin Hoffman, USA TODAY Sports) Brandon Hess: Many will argue that this day should have come years ago, but alas Lindy Ruff’s tenure has come to an end.  In the...

There was a before Lindy Ruff…?

By now we’ve all heard the news… Lindy Ruff has been fired as the head coach of the Buffalo Sabres. It has been a LONG time (just about 16 years) since the franchise was in the market for a new coach. Lindy was hired back on July 21, 1997 which got me thinking… what was the world like back then? Let’s take a look back at that fateful day in the summer of 97′ (Photo courtesy...

Lindy Ruff Canned. DOY remembers...

This afternoon the Buffalol Sabres did the impossible -- they fired head coach Lindy Ruff who has been the team's head coach since 10,00 BC. It was a firing that happened about five years too late at best. With exception of them playing Boston, the Sabres are awful. Just awful. The're 6-10-1 overall and 3-7 in their last 10. From NHL.com: The Buffalo Sabres have...

Farewell Old Friend

The Toughest Parts The reaction, as you might expect, has been a cautionary one. Within a half hour of the news, coaches from around the NHL — men who have been Lindy Ruff’s colleague for more than a decade in different capacities — shared with reporters their feelings about Ruff as a person and coach and that they are sure he’ll get another chance somewhere. To a man...
