I just read that the Kansas-Mizzou feud dates back to pre-civil war. How crazy is that?Obviously it wasn't based on the schools back then, but the two states have hated each other for a loooong time. It was a fight over slavery, which of course means the Kansans had it right even back then. :)But even the Jayhawks' name came from that. Evidently both sides kept crossing the borders to burn each other's cities and stuff. Jim Denny is a Missouri historian named Jim Denny said, "Jayhawkers were the name that Missourians came up with to characterize those marauders that came across their border to burn their towns and loot their farms and steal their slaves."Kinda weird that we chose a mascot based on a name Missouri gave us...
