The Alabama Crimson Tide are once again the No. 1 team in the latest release of the 2012 BCS Standings, much the same as they are in the AP Top 25 as well as the Discover Fan Loyalty Poll. Alabama is the top team coming off of another SEC Blowout against the Tennessee Volunteers, but do they deserve to remain as the No. 1 team in the BCS rankings?
I predicted that the Crimson Tide would hold on to the No. 1 rankings after this weekend’s games, even though the Florida Gators, Kansas State Wildcats and Oregon Ducks were all also very impressive. In fact, my projected updated BCS Standings that I post every Sunday morning look very much like the actual BCS rankings that were revealed hours later. Here is a look at the actual standings as they stand entering Week 9 of the 2012 college football season:

Alabama received 59 of 60 first-place votes from the media panel. The Tide has twice previously been No. 1 for seven consecutive weeks - in 1979 when Bear Bryant coached `Bama to a national title and in 1980 when the Tide finished...

Alabama head coach Nick Saban discussed Mississippi State, his young breakout stars Amari Cooper and T.J. Yeldon, and his mother's carrot cake at his weekly Monday press conference.
Amari Cooper had a very good night for the Alabama Crimson Tide in Knoxville Saturday as the true freshman hauled in seven passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns in a 44-13 win over Tennessee.
Stop me if you’ve heard this one. “Alabama hasn’t played anyone.” The big test is always coming, and thus far the Crimson Tide has been able to handle it. To be sure, the Crimson Tide benefited from some bad injury luck, Arkansas and Missouri not having their starting quarterbacks when they played Bama. Regardless, drama has not been the theme of Tide football games this season.
For the first time this year, Alabama linebacker C.J. Mosley was NOT selected by the Crimson Tide coaches as one of the players of the week. So when is a negative news? When the leading tackler and the man who made a key interception that led to a touchdown and had a tackle for loss doesn’t merit the list.
Darius Paige has dealt with rumors surrounding his recruitment since he transferred high schools from Florida to Alabama earlier this season. But months later, the Crimson Tide commit is all smiles as he helps lead the Foley (Ala.) Lions to the playoffs.
Safety Robert Lester said after the Tennessee game that Alabama won't find its identity until the end of the season. That may be, but as of right now, this team is showing that being balanced on both sides of the ball will be a part of it.
Football historians can cite numerous examples of the kicking game being paramount in the classic Third Saturday in October clashes between Alabama and Tennessee. Legendary coaches Robert Neyland for the Vols and Paul Bryant for the Crimson Tide put utmost importance on special teams.
