BOSTON — When Doc Rivers leaves the basketball arena or practice court, he passes straight into the realm of fandom. With the Celtics, Rivers is a rational individual who understands that winning and losing has everything to do with the gameplan and execution, and nothing to do with whether he wears his lucky tie or took the same route to work as he did the last time the Celtics won. When he does not have any actual input in the outcome, however, Rivers admits he gets just as tense as any viewer watching from the safety of his couch. “With us, hell, I just show up and say, ‘Please, guys, make shots,’” Rivers said prior to the Celtics’ win over the Bobcats on Monday. “When I watch other teams that I like, you tend to do the same stuff, turn the beer label the same way, all that.” That was why anybody who might have caught a glimpse of Rivers at Gillette Stadium on Sunday may have noticed some similarities with the last time the Celtics coach attended a Patriots game. While watching t...

Would KG treat Austin like he does most rookies? Doc spoke to the media today on the topic of facing his son. While Austin currently...

Austin Rivers tasked with facing his father, Doc

New Orleans Hornets rookie guard Austin Rivers has struggled lately. His father will offer some advice. That is, after Wednesdays game in Boston. I will let him know at dinner after the game, Doc Rivers said with a laugh. Rivers is the Celtics coach. And hes about to face his son in a game for the first time. It will mark just the fourth time a coaching father has met his playing...

Same old story: Celtics blow big lead, still win

BOSTON -- If Doc Rivers had his druthers, his team wouldn't be blowing double-digit leads, which the Boston Celtics have done in each of the past three games, all at home. But coming out on top in all three, which has run the team's winning streak to six games, makes it a little easier for the coach to accept. "You always don't like it," Rivers said after...

Doc Rivers not looking forward to coaching against his son, Austin Rivers

Tweet Celtics head coach Doc Rivers has been around the NBA as a player and coach for 27 years. He’s seen most everything. However, on Wednesday night Doc will have to do something he’s never had to do in the NBA—coach against his son, Austin Rivers. Austin is a rookie guard for the Hornets, whom [...]

Austin wins Rivers family battle as Hornets down Celtics

BOSTON -- Austin Rivers had a stop to make after Wednesday night's game at TD Garden. The rookie guard had to go see his father, and ... well, rub it in just a little. "Oh yeah, that's what I'm about to do right now. I'm about to get changed and go not to the locker room but to his office; be like 'What's up?'," the younger Rivers said after...

Belichick: End of half a point of emphasis vs. Ravens

The final minutes -- or just minute -- of each half will be at a premium when the New England Patriots host the Baltimore Ravens Sunday in the AFC Championship game. After jumping out to a pretty nice 17-3 lead with just over three minutes to go in the second quarter of a victory over the Houston Texans last week, the Patriots allowed the Texans to score 10 points inside the two...

Patriots Add Former Chiefs OC Brian Daboll To Their Coaching Staff

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick announced on Monday that they will be adding former Chiefs OC Brian Daboll to their coaching staff. This is very similar to what they did last year when they signed Josh McDaniels as an assistant after he was let go by the Rams. Daboll spent time as the Patriots’ WRs coach for several years. He’s worked as an offensive coordinator for the...

Hornets 90, Celtics 78

BOSTON - The New Orleans Hornets, a young team starting to find its way, put an end to the Celtics' six-game winning streak with an impressive 90-78 win over Boston Wednesday night. The Hornets, who have suddenly won six of their last seven games, won for the second straight night on the road and also won the battle within the Rivers family, with rookie guard Austin Rivers...

Underrated Stat of the Night - Bobcats 1/14

The Celtics, behind another triple-double from Rondo, defeated the Bobcats 100-89 at the TD Garden Monday night. Yes, it was just 11 points. And I know that all non-Celtic fans will send me e-mails later calling me an idiot for praising them. But they had this game in control pretty well from the very beginning. Charlotte made a slight dent in the third, but I would still be proud...

Bill Belichick, Patriots Well Aware of What’s at Stake As AFC Championship Trophy Makes Appearance at Gillette Stadium (Photos)

FOXBORO, Mass. — The Patriots seem focused and ready to host yet another AFC Championship Game this weekend at Gillette Stadium. On Wednesday, the team even got a reminder of exactly what they will be playing for on Sunday as the championship trophy was on display inside the stadium. The Lamar Hunt Trophy, which is awarded to the AFC champion each year, was front and center during...

Patriots Bring Back Coach Brian Daboll in Unspecified Role

The Kansas City Chiefs’ house cleaning might be the Patriots’ gain. With offensive coordinator Brian Daboll having been fired in K.C., the former Patriots defensive assistant and wide receivers coach is returning to New England, according to ESPN. Head coach Bill Belichick said that, for now, Daboll will help the team similarly to Josh McDaniels role last postseason, possibly...

Brian Daboll’s Return to Patriots, Raises Eyebrows About Futures of Josh McDaniels, Bill Belichick

Right around the time when Bill O’Brien was announced as the next head coach at Penn State last January, Josh McDaniels not so coincidentally made his return to the Patriots’ coaching staff. Might they be dealing with déjà vu, just one year later? Bill Belichick announced the return of former Patriots assistant coach Brian Daboll (2000-2006) to the coaching staff, during his...

Patriots Fan Gets the Worst Tattoo Ever

I'm not one for adorning my body with tattoos for the sports teams I love but hey, that's what works for some people. However, one New England Patriots fan might want to reconsider his decision to feature this tattoo of Pat the Patriot on his body canvas. There's bad tattoos and then there are BAD tattoos, this one is HORRENDOUS. First off, it looks like Pat...

Patriots words for the Ravens: Challenge and battle

Looks like the script was handed out immediately after the win last night. Check this out:Jerod Mayo: “Great team. These are the two teams that deserve to go to the AFC Championship Game, Baltimore and us. They are a great team, a lot of good players on both sides of the ball. It will be a challenge for us.” Nate Solder: “[The Ravens] are a great team. They beat two tough...
