Feelin' Kinda Blue:
Matt Magill's Isotope debut was a rough one on Friday afternoon. It could have been nerves, it could have been the environment and it could have been he was just off. It doesn't really matter after the first game of the season.
Magill's line: 4 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 1 HR
It certainly isn't the the worst line ever posted in the Isotopes' home park, but for my No. 6 prospect, it's a tad disappointing. But it isn't time to worry. If it's July and things are still this way, then it might be time to worry.
Chris Jackson of the Albuquerque Examiner said Magill, 23, topped out at 91 MPH with his fastball and ranged from 86-90. That velocity is what he threw early in his minor-league career. He was sitting in the low-90s toward the end of last season. Now, it is just his first start of the season, so it's not time to panic.
Jackson also said his off-speed stuff was generally in the low-80s. He has a swing-and-miss slider, so it was s...

Baseball Prospectus: Matt Kemp has struggled to start the year, but his poor Spring Training probably has little to do with it.
His career line in 561 plate appearances? .252/.291/.448/.739.
True Blue LA: The Opening Day payroll for the Dodgers is over $240 million.
Baseball America: Draft bonus pools for the 2013 MLB Draft will rise 8.2 percent from last year...
Many around the league believe Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw could be the next high-profile player in line for a lucrative contract extension. However, as of yesterday, a deal between the Dodgers and their young ace "didn't appear imminent," according to Dylan Hernandez of The Los Angeles Times.
In what was probably the most anticipated debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers since Manny Ramirez, the Dodgers’ Zack Greinke made his first appearance at Blue Heaven on Earth Friday night.
And he did not disappoint, leading the Dodgers to a 3-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. He gave up just two hits in six-and-one-third innings.
He retired the first five batters he faced before...
Yasiel Puig makes his much anticipated debut, along with Zach Lee, Joc Pederson and Matt Magill.
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Clayton Kershaw followed up his sensational one-man show on opening day with seven innings of two-hit ball and nine strikeouts in a spirited duel with A.J. Burnett, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat Pittsburgh 1-0 Saturday night for their second straight shutout win over the Pirates. Kershaw (2-0) walked one and retired 17 consecutive batters after giving up...

The Dodgers have traded pitcher Aaron Harang to the Colorado Rockies for former All-Star catcher Ramon Hernandez and cash.
General manager Ned Colletti says Saturday's deal gives the Dodgers another backup at catcher behind starter A.J. Ellis.
Hernandez has a career average of .264 with 166 home runs, 751 RBI and 1,335 hits during his 14-year career with Oakland, San Diego...
Today marked the 2013 debuts of some notable pitchers, including Chris Withrow, Chris Reed, Garrett Gould and Jharel Cotton. Oh, and some guy called Puig homered.
Baseball fans were wondering what Los Angeles Dodgers left hand pitcher Clayton Kershaw would do for an encore, after pitching a complete game, four hit shutout on opening day while chipping in at the plate with a home run (does listening to Vin Scully on any call ever get old). While not quite as impressive, Kershaw followed it up today with a 7 inning performance only allowing...
In a bit of surprising news from Saturday morning, the Dodgers have acquired catcher Ramon Hernandez from the Rockies.
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports tweeted the Dodgers traded Aaron Harang and cash to acquire Hernandez.
Hernandez was designated for assignment last week by Colorado, so the team could only trade or release him, as he wouldn't accept an assignment to Triple-A...
Pirates (1-3) at Dodgers (2-2)
9:10 PM–Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles
The Bucs will look to right the ship tonight out in Los Angeles, but the timing couldn’t be much worse for a matchup against the best pitcher in the NL. The many struggles on offense have been well chronicled so far, but here’s a quick summary:
OK, official offensive slashes: 127/.195...
For a player who has dealt with anxiety issues, Zack Greinke is facing what may be one of the most high-pressure days of his career.
It's his first meaningful game since signing one of the richest pitching contracts in history, and his first with one of baseball's most storied franchises. Plus, Greinke is trying to show his new home fans that a recent elbow issue is no longer...
