Athletic directors in the Big East Conference have to be scrambling to fill open spots on next season’s football schedules. The reason being that the Big East and West Virginia are reported to be close to an agreement on WVU’s early exit to the Big 12.According to the Newark Star-Ledger, Rutgers and Syracuse are strongly considering a home-and-home series to make up for the loss of the Mountaineers.Syracuse and Pittsburgh, both bound for the ACC, are unable to follow suit immediately because the ACC football schedule has been set already for next season. They would leave after this season, still a year early, if they also come to a settlement agreement with the Big East.To make up for not playing West Virginia, Rutgers could face the Orange at home and then — as one plan proposes — at Yankee Stadium a second time (the other option for the second meeting is the Carrier Dome).
