Drosselmeyer Upsets Belmont

Drosselmeyer came through with a victory in the $1 million Belmont Stakes. The horse that was left out of the Kentucky Derby because it hadn’t earned enough money outlasted the rest of the field to win the final leg of the Triple Crown by three-quarters of a length. Named for a character in Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker,” Drosselmeyer earned $600,000 for the win, more than quadrupling his career total. Again, there was no Triple Crown champion this year.
