You know, maybe it really *is* the American League. RA Dickey started on Tuesday night against the Giants, and his performance was positively DIckey-esque: two runs on six hits in six innings, walking two and striking out ten. Dickey also tallied 15 whiffs on 115 pitches, a little above the rate he sat at last season. Unfortunately, Dickey's next start will come on Sunday...against the Yankees. Good luck with that. PIC OF THE DAY Pablo Sandoval looks like he's doing the Gangnam Style dance...or he's throwing the ball. Either or. (John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports) Game of the Night: Pirates 4, Brewers 3 (12 innings). Pittsburgh trailed 3-2 going into the eighth inning, but ended up tying the game and pulling Jeff Locke off the hook when Russell Martin (of course) doubled in Neil Walker. Pittsburgh put two on with one out in the ninth, but left empty-handed. The Brewers put two on in the tenth with two outs, and couldn't score. The Pirates had a man on second with one out in the tenth, and got bupkis. Milwaukee put the leadoff man on in the 12th, but he was erased on a Ryan Braun double play. Finally in the bottom of the 12th, Andrew McCutchen hit a walkoff solo homer to give the Pirates a huge 3-2 win. Pitching Lines of the Night: Clayton Kershaw torched the Nationals in a 2-0 Dodgers win, falling one out short of a complete game shutout and giving up just five hits, walking one and striking out 11. Homer Bailey threw a complete game for the Reds in their 6-2 win, allowing two runs on six hits, walking none and striking out ten. Pat Corbin allowed three hits in seven shutout innings for Arizona in their 2-0 win over Atlanta, striking out five and walking five. Chris Tillman got a hard luck no decision for the Orioles in their 3-2 loss to the Padres, giving up one run on four hits in seven innings, striking out seven and walking two. Jeff Francis pitched well in Colorado's 9-4 win over the Cubs, allowing one run on three hits in six innings, walking one and striking out...seven!? Hitting Lines of the Night: Carlos Gonzalez was the big offensive star for the Rockies in their win in Chicago, going 5/5 with three runs, three RBI, a double, and two homers. Mitch Moreland powered the Rangers to a 6-5 win over Oakland, going 2/5 with three RBI and two homers, while Adrian Beltre went 3/5 with two runs, a double, and a homer. Carlos Beltran powered the Cardinals to a 10-4 win over the Mets, going 3/5 with two runs, four RBI, and his tenth homer of the year. Melky Cabrera gave Dickey all the offense he needed, going 4/5 with two runs, two RBI, and a double against his former team.  Other Games: The Phillies beat the Indians 6-2. The Yankees rallied late to beat the Mariners 4-3, with neither Felix Hernandez nor CC Sabathia figuring in the decision. The Tigers beat the Astros 6-2. Matt Moore improved to 7-0 in the Rays' 5-3 win over the Red Sox. The White Sox beat the Twins 4-2. The Angels homered four times in a 6-2 win over the Royals. What You Missed: Curtis Granderson is back for the Yankees, but who will he replace in the lineup? Are the Indians contenders in 2013? Where would the Nationals be without Bryce Harper? Today's Games: Max Scherzer starts for the Tigers against the Astros. Cole Hamels gets the nod for the Phillies against the Indians. Alexi Ogando starts for the Rangers against the A's. Yovani Gallardo takes on Wandy Rodriguez in Pittsburgh. Jon Lester takes on David Price in Tampa. Hisashi Iwakuma takes on Phil Hughes in the Bronx. Jeff Samardzija starts for the Cubs against the Rockies. Shelby Miller takes on the Mets in what could be a repeat performance of his last start. Ross Detwiler starts for the Nationals against Zack Greinke, making his return for the Dodgers. National TV: Astros-Tigers (1 PM, MLB Network), Indians-Phillies (1 PM, MLB Network [alternate]), Red Sox-Rays (7 PM, ESPN) Enjoy your day of baseball, everyone. [follow]
