The Green Bay Packers lost running back Eddie Lacy early during today’s contest against the Washington Redskins after he suffered a concussion. Later in the game, Redskins oft-injured safety Brandon Meriweather found himself injured with a head ailment of his own. Here’s Dr. Ray Solano’s take on the injuries and concussions in general:Brandon Meriweather proved a danger to his opponents and himself on Sunday. After two brutal hits in the Redskins' loss to the Packers, he appeared to lose track of the NFL rules relating to leading with one's helmet and unfortunately left the game himself with a concussion.Earlier in the game, his nasty hit knocked out Green Bay's running back Eddie Lacy. After two weeks in the NFL, concussions have once again returned to the fore-front in the league. After watching today's Redskins game, it reminded me of the seriousness behind traumatic brain injury.Although concussions can be serious, a majority of them usually resolve within one week. One thing is for sure, it's not an easy road back. NFL policy dictates that an athlete must complete a series of five tests before returning to play after a diagnosed concussion.          Symptoms (headache, nausea and confusion, for example) resolve for 24 consecutive hours          Symptoms do not return with light activity          Symptoms do not return with sport-specific activity         Symptoms do not return with non-contact practice         Symptoms do not return with full practiceIf you're not already doing so, you need to be following Dr. Solano on Twitter.
