The day before Brian France gives his “State of NASCAR” address before the media in Charlotte, N.C, NASCAR announced Wednesday that it would no longer issue “secret” fines.
During the past two seasons, NASCAR has issued fines in secrecy on many occasions. Ryan Newman and Denny Hamlin were the first known drivers to be fined secretly for comments in 2010. Newman was then fined again after an incident with Juan Pablo Montoya at Richmond International Raceway that led to an alleged physical altercation. Most recently, Brad Keselowski was fined for his comments at a fan forum about the electronic fuel injection.
“NASCAR will no longer issue fines that are undisclosed,” NASCAR’s statement said. “We looked at this issue from every angle and gathered feedback from the industry.”
