According to Scott Coker via the LA Times, Fedor's injured thumb will keep him out 4-6 months. The injury includes a fracture and tendon damage. This is pretty much to be expected after Fedor fights. He almost always sustains a hand injury from ramming his fist into his opponent's head. To be honest, I don't think the injury makes much difference. Even if Fedor came out healthy, he wasn't fighting in the next 3 months. He's a top guy and those types average a fight every 6 months. The layoff gives Strikeforce a chance to clear up their Heavyweight picture and hopefully get Alistair Overeem into the mix. If they get Overeem a fight (and a win) in early 2010, it sets up a bout with Fedor during sweeps in May on CBS.
