Felix Doubront has been something of an enigma for the Red Sox this season but has had solid starts in his last few outings. In fact, Doubront has racked up four straight quality starts after Sunday’s day game against the Angels.
The right-hander allowed three runs on six hits over six innings on Saturday with four strikeouts. Though he eventually look the loss, Doubront said after the game that he felt that he could have gone longer than six innings. Watch the video above to hear what else Doubront had to say.
BEST OF MAXIM
David Ortiz provided Exhibit A in Boston Strong on Thursday night.
The slugger has been vocal about his support for the city in the days since the Boston Marathon bombings. He was behind one of the most memorable moments of that turbulent week, and since then, he’s kept up the tribute the best way he knows how — by knocking the ball out of the park.
Ortiz did that in the most...
Jonny Gomes is no stranger to throwing caution to the wind while playing the outfield. As it turns out, he has a good reason — or five — for playing so fearlessly.
“I’ve almost died five times,” Gomes told WEEI.com.
That’s right. Gomes, one of the most charismatic individuals in the Red Sox’ very loose clubhouse, has apparently stared death in the face five times. And...
Teddy StankiewiczWith their second pick in the MLB Draft, the Red Sox continued their pitching obsession by selecting 6'4", 215-pound Teddy Stankiewicz. The big right-hander struck out 70 batters in 60 2/3 innings this year and sported an ERA of 2.52 for JUCO Seminole State (Okla.). He was a second-round pick of the Mets last year, but decided to take the junior college...
Walking somebody to bring up David Ortiz — that just sounds wrong.
Ortiz made it look wrong, too, on Thursday night. After seeing Dustin Pedroia intentionally walked in front of him, Ortiz walloped the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the ninth inning into the Rangers’ bullpen. The jack scored three runs and gave Boston a 6-3 win after the team had trailed for most of the...
The Boston Red Sox are set to play two games against the Los
Angeles Angels today following last night’s rainout. The team could activate
Shane Victorino from the disabled list later today and plug him into the lineup
for the second game of the double-header, according to Pete Abraham of The Boston
Middlebrooks is staying with Pawtucket this weekend. Victorino is...
When Big Papi (that's David Ortiz for those that don't follow baseball but are till reading this) smacked a three run homer to lift the Boston Red Sox over the Texas Rangers Thursday night it was just another of the many moments that have defined the career of the Boston legend.
But it was not just any 'Big Papi' moment. His teammates ripped off his jersey during...
It appears nothing can derail Clay Buccholz‘s dominant start to the 2013 season.
After missing an appearance due to soreness in his right AC joint, the righty pitched five innings of scoreless baseball on Sunday in a 3-0 win over the Yankees. Buchholz struck out four and allowed just two hits and one walk.
That performance lowered his season ERA to 1.62. Buchholz is 8-0 on the...
Shane Victorino was activated from the Red Sox’ 15-day disabled list just in time for the encore performance in a day-night doubleheader against the Angels. Victorino has battled injuries all season, most recently missing 11 games because of a hamstring issue. He returns to the lineup in center field and leading off the batting order.
The only other changes from the Sox’ day...
With the game tonight being postponed due to Tropical Storm Andrea ruining everything with rain, we now have some time to review the recent selections by Boston in this years' draft. No surprise the Sox went heavy on pitchers in the draft as most teams due since that is a position where players seem to fizzle out the quickest. Seven out of their...
David Ortiz hit a three-run walkoff home run in the 9th inning to give the Boston Red Sox a 6-3 win over the Texas Rangers on Thursday night at historic Fenway Park.

The Red Sox showed interest in Josh Hamilton this offseason, but they weren’t willing to give the All-Star outfielder more than a three-year contract.
So far, it’s looking like Boston made a great decision. Daniel Nava has actually been the far more productive player during the first two-plus months of the season.
Hamilton is batting .216 with eight home runs, 18 RBIs, a .660...
There were certainly some notable family ties for the Red Sox when it came to this year’s MLB draft.
John Farrell’s youngest son, Luke, was drafted in the sixth round on Friday. On Saturday, Carl Yastrzemski’s grandson, Mike, got his call in the 14th round (429th overall).
This is actually the second time that Mike Yastrzemski has been drafted. He was selected by the Red Sox...
After splitting the day-night doubleheader, the Red Sox (37-25) wrap up the series with the Angels this afternoon at Fenway Park. Ryan Dempster (3-6) will be on the mound facing off against the Angels Joe Blanton (1-9).
Dempster is 0-2 with an 11.02 ERA in three career starts against the Angels.
Blanton is 3-4 in 11 appearances against the Red Sox...
