Boston Red Sox
The Seattle Mariners have not been a very good team in recent years, finishing with a winning record just twice in the past nine seasons and not since 2009.
Boston has been part of the Mariners’ poor results, winning the season series three straight years and four of the past five seasons. The Sox will be around -150 favorites to win this week’s three-game set at Fenway Park, which begins Tuesday night in the teams’ final meeting.
Seattle (50-55) has been playing better of late, winning seven of 10 since the All-Star break and not losing a series. Still, with the playoffs a pipe dream, it’s possible the team could be a seller ahead of Wednesday’s trade deadline. DH/first baseman Kendrys Morales and outfielder Raul Ibanez would add value to contending teams needing a left-handed bat. Right-handed hitting outfielder Michael Morse (.253, 11 home runs) also could go. He’s been out since June 20 but is expected back in the lineup Tuesday.

BEST OF MAXIM
Dusting off the crystal ball
The Seattle Mariners weren’t sure exactly what to expect coming into this season. They had a slew of young talent knocking on the door. They had a new group of veterans looking to acquaint and re-acquaint themselves with the team.
So far this season, these 2 groups have worked with incumbent players to help change the landscape of the locker room. It’s...
Who would punch the lovable face of the Seattle Mariners' moose mascot? A Boeing employee, that's who, and on Public Safety Day, no less.
Yesterday the Seattle Mariners announced that Michael Morse, the power-hitting slugger who opened the season with impressive numbers, had completed his rehab stint at AAA Tacoma and would be rejoining the team in Boston.
Today’s afternoon contest will mark the first time since June 22 that Morse has been with the squad, as he had previously strained his right...

Dollar bills began raining down from the upper deck of Safeco Field during the seventh inning of Sunday's Seattle Mariners game. Some fans themselves a few dollars richer, while television broadcasters expressed their disappointment that none of the bills flew into the broadcast booth.
The bills were apparently part of a promotional...
Texas Rangers’ General Manager Jon Daniels has never been known to sit by idly when it comes to improving his team. In recent years Daniels has shown the tendency to look into players that for one reason or another fit into the mold of a “low risk high reward” type. Players that usually fall into this classification are either attempting to make a return from major injury...
The city of Seattle is known for being rainy. On Sunday at Safeco Field, however, it was a different kind of rain falling from the sky.
During the seventh inning of Sunday's game between the Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins, dollar bills rained from the sky. Broadcasters from both teams observed in bewilderment, trying to determine where the money was falling from. Meanwhile...
The Pirates made one trade today, acquiring infielder Robert Andino from the Seattle Mariners for a player to be named later, first reported by Ryan Divish of the Tacoma News Tribune.
Andino, 29, has played mostly in Triple-A this season, recording a .229 average and .281 on-base percentage for the Tacoma Rainiers. He has played nine Major League seasons for the Florida Marlins...
Seattle's Raul Ibanez was fairly confident he was going to be racing home trying to score the go-ahead run. Instead, he could only watch as he was part of an unusual inning-ending unassisted double play.
A half-inning later, Stephen Drew singled in the winning run in the 15th to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 5-4 victory over the Mariners and back into first place in the AL East...
Yes, you read that right. Someone took a swing at the Seattle Mariners mascot, the Mariner Moose.
It's hard to believe anyone would seriously try to punch a mascot in the nose, yet that's exactly what happened over the weekend at Public Safety Day at Boeing Headquarters in Seattle.
According to KOMO-TV, a Boeing employee approached the Moose...
Miami Marlins hitting coach Tino Martinez resigned on Sunday amid reports that he had abused players physically and verbally.
According to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, Martinez called out players for not picking up balls they hit in the batting cage. Picking up balls in the cage is standard practice according to the 45-year-old Martinez.
After seeing players repeatedly refuse to...
The Seattle Mariners are in trade talks involving two members of their bullpen and outfielder Michael Morse, according to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports. Closer Tom Wilhelmsen and left-hander Oliver Perez are both reportedly candidates to get moved along with Morse as the 50-56 Mariners make a late move to sell before tonight's deadline. Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun tweeted...

The Red Sox took the lead early and went on to an easy 8-2 win over Seattle tonight at Fenway.
After a 1st inning Mariners run, Brandon Workman settled down to pitch six strong innings, walking one and striking out nine. Workman faced a jam in his last inning with the bases loaded, but managed to get out of it by striking out Michael Morse and Justin Smoak back to back to end his...
Coming off their most frustrating loss of the year to the Tampa Bay Rays, the Boston Red Sox look to turn the table with a three game set beginning tonight with the Seattle Mariners. This series against Seattle starts a stretch of 22 games in a row against teams with mediocre records, which could be a good for the Red Sox to try to move up the AL East and leap the Tampa Bay Rays...
