Heff's Sports Blog:
PICK: Eric Reid, S, LSU
ANALYSIS: I know San Francisco was going to trade up for someone, but why Reid? I know there's been a lot of buzz around him lately (mostly with the Bengals), but I just don't see him as a first round prospect. I think San Francisco could have stayed put and taken a better safety like Matt Elam. He fills a big need, but I just can't understand trading up for him.

Tyrann Mathieu may not have been selected Thursday in the first round of the NFL Draft (it was in Round 3 to Arizona ), but at least the Honey Badger can take comfort in knowing that he didn't have the worst night among LSU defensive backs hoping to go pro.
According to KATC.com , former Tigers cornerback Tharold Simon was arrested Thursday in his hometown of Eunice, La., where...
It was already a bad enough idea for Tyrann Mathieu to host an NFL Draft party. When you have a reputation for having off-field problems that include a past marijuana addiction, being a party guy is not the image you wan’t to portray. But it’s also questionable when the flyer bills you as a “1st Round Draft Pick.”
Mathieu posted a picture to Instagram Wednesday of a flyer...
Les Miles wants change to come to the cross-division format of the SEC schedule in which each team is assigned a permanent opponent from the other division. Making a disturbing amount of sense, Miles said, "A key piece for any conference is to allow equal access for any champion."
Miles' push for change is the result of the 2013 schedule, which calls for LSU to...
Former LSU cornerback and NFL draft prospect Tharold Simon is facing possible charges in his hometown of Eunice for his alleged treatment of a police officer who ordered Simon to move his parked car out of the street.
Simon's agent, Peter Schaffer, disputes police accounts and says the officer overacted in a ''shameful'' abuse of power.
According to a police...
At one point, former LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu was graded as a potential first-round pick in the NFL. Then came a little thing called drug tests. But the man known as Honey Badger remains hopeful, perhaps defiantly so, that he will be taken Thursday night. He’s so confident that he has listed himself as a first-round pick on invites to a post-draft party that he is throwing...
It comes as no surprise at all that the San Francisco 49ers packaged a pair of picks to trade up from No.31 to No.18 overall in the draft. It does, however, come as a surprise that they chose to take LSU safety Eric Reid, a player many draft analysts had projected to go late in the first round or early second round.
San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke sent the Niner’s...
As we are less than a day away from the 2013 NFL Draft, former LSU safety Tyrann Mathieu is one of the college football prospects hoping to have his name called.
Mathieu will be in New York City before the start of the draft and it appears that he will be throwing a party before the start of the draft.
Check out the ad for the party which will be held at S&L night club...

Apparently, being an NFL Draft hopeful from LSU and also getting in trouble with the law aren’t mutually exclusive things.
That’s because in the midst of an NFL Draft where one of the biggest questions remains where Tyrann Mathieu will be selected after a slew of failed drug tests and an October arrest, another former Bayou Bengal was in...
Former LSU cornerback and draft hopeful Tharold Simon was reportedly arrested on Thursday night in his hometown of Eunice, LA.
Tharold Simon was arrested on the day of the 2013 NFL Draft, but his agent says the former LSU defensive back has done nothing wrong.
FS Eric Reid out of LSU is a player the 49ers may look to at No. 31. Reid is projected as a 2nd rounder, but at 31 overall, it might not be that much of a stretch. If he is the player the 49ers covet. Doubt he is there at the end of the 2nd round, but with 14 picks the 49ers do have fire power if they chose to trade up.
The first round of the NFL Draft has come and gone which saw two LSU Tigers hear their names called. Barkevious Mingo went 6th overall to the Browns while Eric Reid was picked 18th by the San Francisco 49ers. Kevin Minter, who was a fringe candidate for the first round, did not get to hear his name called (nor did Manti Te'o, for that matter). He'll be among the many Tigers...
