Dallas Cowboys
Former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Eugene Lockhart Jr. will be sentenced Wednesday afternoon for his part in a $20 million mortgage fraud case that has resulted in federal prison terms for two others.
Lockhart pleaded guilty last year and faces up to 10 years in prison.
His attorney, Jay Ethington, has said his client deserves probation because he went into the mortgage business with good intentions.
Lockhart, who got the nickname Mean Gene the hitting machine while playing with the Cowboys from 1984 to 1990, was arrested in 2009.
Ten people have been found guilty in the scheme, which involved the recruitment of straw purchasers from roughly 2002 to 2005 who falsified their incomes to obtain loans for inflated sales prices. Source: Dallasnews.com Attached Thumbnails
