YouTube Former Tennessee hoops legend Bernard King was elected to be inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame today, 19 years after he ended his NBA career.  Current Louisville head coach Rick Pitino was among others who were also elected to the 2013 Hall of Fame class. Bernard King attended the University of Tennessee from 1974-1977 and averaged 27.5 points-per-game while at UT. He was also a three-time recipient for the SEC player of the year from 1975-1977. King had 1,962 points and 1,004 rebounds while at Tennessee, the second-most in school history. King went on to be drafted seventh overall in the 1977 NBA draft. He began his NBA career as a Net and went on to play with the Utah Jazz, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, and the Washington Bullets in his career. King was named an NBA All-Star four times in his career. King retired at the end of the 1993 season, finishing his NBA career with 19,655 points (22.5 ppg), 5,060 rebounds (5.8 rpg), and 2,863 assists (3.3 apg).  Check out this video highlighting King’s career at Tennessee. After receiving notice of his induction, Bernard King addressed his gratitude for the honor. “I would certainly love to say it was a dream, but you can’t dream of something like this. I would like to thank the Hall of Fame, Jerry Colangelo (of USA Basketball) and the committee for recognizing my basketball life. Let this serve as a shining example for young kids that through hard work you can certainly accomplish anything in life. I am honored that the Hall has recognized me. Certainly a wonderful moment for me and my family,” King said. Tennessee head coach Cuonzo Martin congratulated King on his induction on Twitter.  What a great honor for Bernard King, his family, his teammates and coaches, and all of Vol Nation. #HOF #VFL — Cuonzo Martin (@CuonzoMartin) April 8, 2013
