American Ricky Fowler had six birdies on the front nine on his way to an 8-under-par 63 Thursday to take the early first-round lead at the Australian PGA. With crowd favorite Adam Scott scheduled for an afternoon tee time, Fowler had the gallery firmly in his favor during his bogey-free round on the revamped Royal Pines resort course. The U.S. golfer had five pars to start the back nine before making birdie on two of his final four holes. Australians Matthew Ballard (65) and Nathan Green (66) were near the top of the leaderboard with more than half the field still on the course. Scott is making his first tournament appearance back home since winning the U.S. Masters in April, the first Australian to do so.
