Anyone who has ever played a sport knows that nicknames are part of the game, a byproduct of both competition and camaraderie. But hockey players have taken it to an art form. From the littlest mite to the NHL's biggest stars, everyone's got a moniker - and usually more than one. Tazer. Little Ball of Hate. The Great One. Sid the Kid. Looch, aka Gino. The Bulin Wall. Kells. Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews (TAVES), also known as "Tazer," says hockey players adopt nicknames because they're "probably acting a little bit younger than they should and goofing around." But they're also a nod to hockey's history, a reminder that no matter how big the NHL becomes, it's not that far removed from its roots in small towns and backyard ponds.

Toews returns strong for 'Hawks

The hard hit that kept Jonathan Toews off the ice for the third period of Game 5 of the finals couldn't stop Chicago's captain from leading the Blackhawks to their second Stanley Cup championship in four seasons. Toews scored Chicago's first goal Monday night and set up the tying goal with 1:16 left in the third period as the Blackhawks rallied with two goals in a span...

Jonathan Toews Claims Blackhawks Have, Can ‘Expose’ Zdeno Chara

Bruins captain Zdeno Chara didn’t have his best game of the postseason on Wednesday night when the Blackhawks evened up the Stanley Cup Final at two games apiece. Two days later, it sounds like the Blackhawks are taking all the credit. Chicago’s captain Jonathan Toews seemed to have gained some confidence after scoring his first goal of the series. in that 6-5 overtime win...

Lord Stanley Knotted At Two

Just a few things that caught my eye: Welcome to the postseason, Jonathan Toews -- you finally got off the schnide. You should have probably had two goals and you made the winner possible. Have the Bruins woken the bear? So, what was up with Zdeno Chara? He was frustrated one minute and falling the next. And he was a better door than window for Tuukka Rask on the...

Blackhawks win Game 5 3-1, take 3-2 series lead

The game did not lack drama as both Jonathan Toews and Patrice Bergeron were injured during play, but the Boston Bruins surrendered a 2-0 lead on goals by Patrick Kane and could not rally, giving up an empty-netter (off a blatant trip) and dropping a 3-1 decision to Chicago. The Blackhawks now take a 3-2 series lead into Game 6 on Monday, but Bergeron's and Toews may or may not play....

Boy howdy. Game Five

Chicago is a game away from winning the cup after a 3-1 win with an empty net goal to make the margin of victory look larger than it should have been.  This series is clearly a battle where stamina and health play a big role in the eventual winner.  Three games so far have gone to overtime.  Jonathan Toews and Patrice Bergeron both missed the third period today and it is uncertain...
