Over his three years facing Georgia, Sean Gilmartin has made a habit of owning the Bulldogs. Friday night was no different as Gilmartin recorded a career high 11 strikeouts allowing just one hit and no runs over his eight innings of work.
However, as brilliant as Gilmartin was, Brandon Johnson and Daniel Bennett were the exact opposite nearly blowing a six run lead only to hold on in beating Georgia 6-5.
Johnson came in the bottom of the ninth and lasted just eight pitches, all balls, walking both of the batters he faced. Bennett fared better but not much allowing five hits, all singles, in addition to a hit batter.
A throwing error by Devon Travis to first base low and into the dirt scored UGA’s first run. The flood gates seemed to open up after that. Hits by the Georgia batters just seemed to pick the exact right spot to get runners on base as FSU was unable to record the first out of the side until the fifth batter.
