Galvis with Reading in 2011, image- Jay Floyd Following Thursday’s acquisition of infielder John McDonald from Cleveland, the Phillies made room on their active big league roster by demoting infielder Freddy Galvis to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. McDonald, a veteran of 15 major league seasons, has a career .235 batting average and a .605 career OPS mark.  The 38-year-old posted a .053 batting average in 24 games in the bigs this year.  Primarily a shortstop, with 568 games played there, McDonald has also spent considerable time at second base (209 games) and third base (135 games) while dabbling just a tad in the outfield (six games). Galvis  is a career .218 hitter with a .626 OPS in 112 major league contests.  The move will allow the 23-year-old Venezuelan to get more playing time with the IronPigs. Philly.com featured the following quote from Phils manager Charlie Manuel regarding the youngster’s need for game action. “When we evaluate him, we think he has a good chance of being a hell of a player,” Manuel said. “If he’s going to stay here and only play once a week or something like that, that ain’t enough. That’s definitely not enough.”
