New York Yankees 0 — Texas Rangers 2

In a battle of pitchers from Japan, Yu Darvish shut down the Yankees in a 2-0 loss to the Texas Rangers.

Hiroki Kuroda took the mound for the Yankees and didn’t have that bad of an outing, but he was outdone by newcomer Yu Darvish. In 6.2 innings, he gave up just 2 runs on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts. He did have a rude opening to his start as Ian Kinsler led off the bottom of the 1st inning with a home run. He later gave up a single following a walk and a stolen base that led to the second run. Usually two runs is good enough to earn a win but this pitching duel went the Rangers way.

Yu Darvish dominated the Yankees offense. In 8.1 scoreless innings, he struck out 10. He gave up two doubles, one to the hot Derek Jeter and one to Robinson Cano. He did get into some jams and escaped them. With the bases-loaded and no outs, he struck out Curtis Granderson and got Alex Rodriguez to ground into a double play. Their final scoring opportunity came after they finally got Darvish out of the game. Unfortunately, Raul Ibanez swung at the first pitch of closer Joe Nathan and ended the game with a double play.

Win – Yu Darvish (3-0)

Loss – Hiroki Kuroda (1-3)

Save – Joe Nathan (5)

Notable

Yankees

*Robinson Cano – 2 for 4, 2B

*Derek Jeter – 2 for 4, 2B

*Josh Hamilton – 1 for 4, RBI (19)

Darvish makes his mark, Rangers top Yankees

ARLINGTON, Texas Yu-phoria swept through Rangers Ballpark Tuesday night with every pitch right-hander Yu Darvish threw against the New York Yankees. And while Darvish's pitching gem brought a sellout crowd to their feet as he exited with a 2-0 lead with one out in the top of the ninth inning, Darvish didn't see it as that big of a deal. "I look at every game the...

Yu Darvish Changes The Game... and the math

So I had the very fine pleasure of watching Yu Darvish turn a very good Yankee lineup, in a very good hitters' park, into absolute meek hamburger last night, as the Rangers beat the Yankees 2-0.Darvish went 8.1 innings, giving way only to the one double play pitch of Joe Nathan to finish things off, and never looked like he was doing anything difficult. And sure, it's April...

Kuroda downplays Japanese pitcher showdown

Japan will surely be excited on Tuesday when Japanese stars Hiroki Kuroda and Yu Darvish face-off against each other as the Rangers host the Yankees. However, Kuroda is trying to downplay the matchup. “I try not to think about it; I don’t want to make it any bigger than it is,” Kuroda told Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News with the help of a translator. “This is not a...

Darvish stymies Yankees for win

Yu Darvish had a season-high 10 strikeouts pitching into the ninth inning and worked out of a couple of jams for the Texas Rangers in a 2-0 victory over the New York Yankees and countryman Hiroki Kuroda on Tuesday night. In only the seventh MLB matchup ever of Japanese starters, Darvish (3-0) allowed seven hits and walked a season-low two in 8 1-3 innings. The 10 strikeouts were...

Yu Darvish pitches a gem in 1st appearance against the Yankees

In the Yankees first game against Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish, he showed off everything that made him a great success in Japan. He worked ahead of the count, had strong command, changed locations, used six different pitches, and varied his pattern throughout. He was dominant. “He was good,” Mark Teixeira told Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News. “You hear a lot of guys get...

Line of the Day: Yu Darvish

April 24, 2012: Yu Darvish pitched 8 1/3 shutout innings, allowing seven hits and two walks while striking out 10 in leading the Texas Rangers to a 2-0 victory over the New York Yankees. Line: 8.1 IP | 7 H | 0 ER | 2 BB | 10 K; W (3-0) | QS My fantasy perspective: Fantasy baseball managers may have seen Darvish as a bit of a wildcard going into their drafts but he’s easily proving...

Rangers 2, Yankees 0

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Yu Darvish arrived in Texas a star. Tuesday night against the New York Yankees, he looked like one. Darvish, the Rangers' high-priced Japanese import, delivered the best outing of his young career, befuddling the Yankees in Texas' 2-0 victory before a sellout crowd of 47,085 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The Yankees couldn't do much against...

Dugout Digest - Yu are my hero

Yu Darvish had his finest start as a member of the Rangers, and it came against the high octane Yankees lineup. Darvish went 8 1/3 innings without allowing a run, allowing seven hits and two walks, and striking out ten Yankees hitters in the process. Perhaps more importantly, he got 12 groundball outs to only three flyball outs. Over his previous three starts, Darvish didn'...

The Yankee beat: Pineda trade, Yu Darvish, & the bullpen

Phil Hughes pitched a beautfiul 1st inning, but quickly fell apart, as he allowed four runs in 2.2 innings. The Yankees offense missed opportunities and were ultimately shutdown by the Texas bullpen. Here is our recap. Here is what the Yankees blogosphere was talking about today. The Pinstriped Bible reminded us that the Mariners haven’t necessarily “won” the Michael...

Rangers Secret Weapon: Robbie Ross

The Texas Rangers are off to a tremendous start to the 2012 season, with a MLB-best 15-4 record.  Names like Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, Yu Darvish, and Matt Harrison have been stealing the spotlight, but perhaps we should all direct our attention to a lefty reliever by the name of Robbie Ross.  The 22 year old made his MLB debut this season and has pitched in 6 games.  Nothing...

Not-So-Rapid Reaction: Rangers 2, Yankees 0

On Monday night, excellent lefties CC Sabathia and Derek Holland combined to allow 11 runs. With struggling right-handers Hiroki Kuroda and Yu Darvish set to do battle last night, I was fully expecting a display of offensive fireworks, one that would thoroughly disappoint an entire nation that had called in sick from work just to see this game. Oops. When I predicted yesterday that...
