blah. That’s my response to last night’s game. So blah that we’ll skip the regular format, and get a new fresh post up ASAP. Yes, JV looks off, but as I discussed before, he’s actually been pretty good. Well, last night was bad, but I’m not worried. I have faith in Ricky P to pitch us to victory. Four straight quality starts with a 1.33 ERA and .70 (not a typo) WHIP during that time. Orioles have a strong lineup, but Porcello has been pitching well. Series winning lineup coming soon…

Detroit Tigers’ Max Scherzer Meets Bo Derek At Perfect 10

Max Scherzer came to the Detroit Tigers in an off-season trade after the 2009 season that was very controversial. Many Detroit partisans were very upset to see fan favorite Curtis Granderson leave in the deal not to mention pitcher Edwin Jackson who had just made the AL All-Star team in his solid debut season in Detroit. There was plenty of acrimony among chat rooms, talk radio,...

Detroit Tigers Send Avisail Garcia To Toledo

In what is becoming a yo-yo type of ride for Avisail Garcia, the young outfielder was sent back to the Toledo Mud Hens by the Detroit Tigers Wednesday to make room for the organization to recall a pitcher to help fill the void left by Annibal Sanchez being on the disabled list. Garcia, who is only 22, is highly regarded and most likely will find his shot again in the majors during...

Jim Leyland cracks joke about booze

DL Stint A Blessing In Disguise For Alex Avila

DETROIT, Michigan — Alex Avila has taken a beating off the field by fans and the media this year, mostly due to his slow start and plummeting batting average. On Sunday, Avila took a beating on the field, after taking a 93 MPH fastball to his left arm which will require the one-time All-Star catcher to head to the disabled list. The Detroit Tigers officially placed him on the 15...

Detroit Tigers Place C Alex Avila On Disabled List, Other Moves

The Detroit Tigers have had to place catcher Alex Avila on the 15-day disabled list due to a deep contusion of his left forearm after being hit by a pitch over the weekend. Bryan Holaday was recalled from Triple-A Toledo to take Avila’s spot on the active roster, although it will be Brayan Pena who should get most of the playing time. There is no reason to believe that Avila will...

Scherzer a perfect 10-0

Detroit -- When you have to go back 104 years to figure out the last time someone did something in a Tigers uniform, you know it's a special accomplishment. Max Scherzer has been incredibly special on a consistent basis this season and Monday night against the hot-hitting Baltimore Orioles was no different. Chris Davis' solo home run leading off the second inning was the...

Manny Machado Really Is The New Brooks Robinson Or Something

The O’s beat Justin Verlander and the Tigers yesterday, continuing strong play of late to give them the AL’s third-best record. Manny Machado chipped in with his league-leading 32nd double and “two sparkling plays at third base.” Neither of those are new for Machado, who’s on pace to break baseball’s season record for doubles and who draws natural comparisons to Baltimore...

Detroit Tigers Game 70 Grades: Not Much Positive Comes From Ugly Series Loss to Orioles

For the second game in a row, the Detroit Tigers failed to score with runners in scoring position, leaving 10 on base. From a pitching standpoint, everything went wrong as well with 13 earned runs. Neither piece of news was good for the scoreboard, which saw the Tigers fall in ugly fashion to the Baltimore Orioles 13-3. The grades aren’t high for many this afternoon, and after...

Max Scherzer Takes Control

Max Scherzer has been nearly unhittable this season for Detroit. (Photo credit) As baseball fans, we love the movie Major League for more than it’s comedic value. It has a strong sense of authenticity, especially on it’s representation of the growth of the young gunslinger, Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn. We have seen a great deal of young pitchers who can break in a catcher...

Justin Verlander bought his brother a Range Rover for getting drafted

Someone must explain to Jose Valverde that Ratios are like Trust

As in it takes an entire lifetime to build the ratios; an entire fantasy season. It takes only an inning to destroy them. My WHIP, my ERA, and the rest of my ratios will never be the same. I feel like my virginity was taken from me today, and now I’m about to have twins.

First Pitch: Sanchez, Avila on DL

By DAVE HOGGFOXSPORTSNEWS.COM Alex Avila gets hit with a lot of baseballs, so he knew right away Sunday that this one was bad. The Tigers catcher had just been hit on the left forearm by a fastball, and crumpled to the ground in pain. Of course, that seems to happen at least once or twice a game, usually on foul tips, but this time, he didn't bounce back up. He ended leaving...
