Pirates (44-30) at Angels (33-41)
10:05 PM–Angel Stadium, Anaheim
The Bucs look to keep things rolling in another late game tonight out in Los Angeles. They’ll go for three in a row and a series win. So far the Bucs have played quite well against the AL – they are 7-3 with 9 more game to go.
Francisco Liriano (5-3, 2.44) vs. Jerome Williams (5-2, 3.14)
Liriano pitched pretty well in his last start, but allowed two solo homers and got no support from the offense in a loss. The lefty has continued to be solid for the Pirates, although it’s hard not to be a little nervous each time he pitches because of his past two seasons. He hasn’t pitched well against the Angels, but this has been a different season for him up to this point.
Williams is filling in for lefty Jason Vargas, who went on the DL yesterday. Vargas is lefty, which is one of the reasons the Bucs called up Tony Sanchez – but Williams is righty, so Sanchez isn’t in the lineup tonight. Williams has made some starts this year and has also been used in long relief and he has done a good job in that role for the Angels so far this year.
