The Mets look to get back on the right track tonight as they take on the Marlins in Miami. Before the Nationals series the Mets were firing on all cylinders. They opened up the series with a tremendous win on both sides of the ball and since then things have slightly unraveled. Anyway Jeremy Hefner takes the ball tonight looking to bounce back in the second half as he goes up against Jacob Turner. It has been a struggle in the second half for Hefner. On the season he is 4-8 with a 4.17 ERA over 114.1 innings of work. Since the All-Star break though he has pitched 6.1 innings allowing 14 runs, 13 earned. He hasn’t faced the Marlins since his season debut where he went 6.0 strong innings allowing only 1 ER. The Marlins have the following numbers against Hefner: Pierre 3-9 Solano 3-9 Polanco 3-10 Ruggiano 0-8 Stanton 1-10 Dobbs 2-9, HR The Mets bats will try to do some damage against one of the bright spots for the Marlins this year, Jacob Turner. Turner is 3-3 over 10 games this season with a 2.49 ERA with 65 innings under his belt. He has pitched 24.0 innings in July with a 3.75 ERA, so not as good as June. His season debut was against the Mets where he pitched 7.0 scoreless innings. The Mets have the following numbers against him: Murphy 2-8 Wright 0-8 Davis 2-8, 2B Buck 1-3 Byrd 0-2 Lets Go Mets! Why A Pitch Limit Is Better Than An Innings Limit

Photo by Ed Leyro The Mets have stated that Matt Harvey is going to be capped at around 210 innings.  Similarly, Zack Wheeler will have his season come to an end when he reaches 185 innings.  As of today, Harvey has competed 145 innings, while Wheeler has tossed 108⅔ innings between AAA-Las Vegas and the Mets.  That leaves approximately ten starts for both Harvey and Wheeler...

All-Star Game: From the Past-Present

The Mets hosted an All-Star game For the fist time since 1964, back when it was Shea Stadium. From the festivities of the weekend to the game itself it was one to remember. The 84th All-Star weekend and game were historical in so many aspects. There was a lot of firsts for some, and it was the end for others. It was the first time in baseball history that there had been shutouts...

Tino Martinez Resigns As Marlins Hitting Coach Amid Allegations of Abuse

MIAMI — Tino Martinez resigned as the Miami Marlins’ hitting coach hours after complaints by players that he verbally abused them became public. In one instance, Martinez acknowledged he angrily grabbed a player. Martinez was in his first year as a professional coach this year. He sat in the dugout during Sunday’s 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, then met with Marlins officials...

Fernandez sets single-game rookie club strikeout mark

At some point in his managerial tenure with the Marlins Mike Redmond won't struggle with decisions like the one he made Sunday. Jose Fernandez will trot in after the eighth at 97 pitches and the thought of him not going out for the ninth will be absurd. That day wasn't Sunday but it didn't detract from the 20-year-old Fernandez's latest jaw-dropping performance....

MLB trade rumors: New York Mets deal unlikely

(Photo credit: Charles Rex/AP) The trade deadline is two days away, and New York Mets manager Terry Collins says he does not expect his team to make any moves. GM Sandy Alderson’s plan was fairly clear. He wouldn’t make any deals for the sake of making noise. He was looking for a power bat, preferably in the outfield, under control for several years. That market never developed...

Trade Ideas: Marlon Byrd for Joe Nathan

Ah, the trading deadline; my favorite time of year. It’s the midseason plot point where words like “blockbuster” are thrown around like clothes in a dryer and can change the fate of any team. I don’t think a blockbuster is in the Mets’ near future. I do believe there are trades that can be made if Sandy Alderson decides to lift his backside from his chair and pull his hands...

51s Breeze Past River Cats In Wind Shortened Game

Las Vegas 13, Sacramento 4 In a weird game that was called early due to extreme wind conditions, the 51s blew away the River Cats last night in Sacramento. In what’s becoming a running theme, Las Vegas jumped out to a lead early on– scoring five runs in the first thanks to a pair of two-run hits off the bats of Wilmer Flores (double) and Jordany Valdespin (single). Sacramento...

Marlins Continue Homestand with Mets

The Miami Marlins are coming off of a series in which they took two of three from the wild card-leading Pittsburgh Pirates. Henderson Alvarez picked up his first win as a member of the Miami Marlins while Giancarlo Stanton grabbed the team lead in home runs and RBIs during the series. The Marlins are off [...]

Tino Martinez Explains his Going too Far with some Miami Marlins Punks

FOX's Ken Rosenthal has a blood boiling interview with fired Miami Marlins hitting coach Tino Martinez. The 45-year-old Martinez describes three separate players who consistently refused to pick up balls after taking soft tosses -- picking up the balls is long time expected baseball practice. He opened with FOXSports.com by describing this expectation: “If Bernie Williams...

The Mets Outfield Is Showing Life Without Being Bourn

Remember when the Mets were trying to land Michael Bourn during the offseason?  Bourn decided to take the money and run to Cleveland instead.  So how’s that going for him?  Well, his new team is doing well in the American League Central, just three games behind the division-leading Detroit Tigers.  But they’re not succeeding because of Bourn.  In fact, other than a decent...

My Liver Hurts

"Only Carlos Torres can save my liver." -Me, yesterday -Me, today. If you thought I had nothing to say about Saturday's game, I probably have less to say about Sunday's 14-1 loss. Carlos Torres gave up eight runs in three innings, Wilson Ramos had a grand slam, and Denard Span had his second home run in two days ... a wall scraper that Span hit around...
