Chris Woodward returns to the major leagues for the first time since 2007, when he spent the entire season with the Braves, hitting .199 in 92 games. He was selected from Tacoma. "That was my goal this year, to get back to the big leagues,'' he said. "To play well at AAA and show people I can still play. I have a lot left in me, and I know I can play at this level. It's just getting the opportunity." He said he has played mostly shortstop, but anticipating a utility role, did work at second base, third base and the outfield. He was scratched from Wednesday's Tacoma lineup in Portland and told to catch a flight to San Diego. "Obviously, I'm happy to be here,'' he said. "I don't know how long I'll be here. However long it is, it is. I'll take it day by day. If I play, do everything I can to help this team win a game." Woodward was hitting .299 for Tacoma.
