Pablo Sandoval hit a two-run homer with one out in the top of the ninth inning and the San Francisco Giants rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 on Tuesday night. Arizona starter Trevor Cahill left after allowing a leadoff single to Angel Pagan, the Giants' fourth hit against the right-hander. J.J. Putz (2-1) came on for Arizona and struck out Marco Scutaro, and quickly went ahead 0-1 on Sandoval. But Sandoval drove Putz's next pitch, a hanging split-finger fastball, deep into the right-field stands to give Giants the lead and hand the struggling Diamondbacks closer his fourth blown save in nine chances. Sandoval left Monday's game with discomfort in his right elbow after hitting an RBI single in the fifth inning, but was back in the starting lineup. It was San Francisco's second straight come-from-behind victory, rallying for a 6-4 win in the series opener Monday. Sandy Rosario (1-0) recorded the last out of the eighth inning for his first career win, a...

In advance of Metallica Night at AT&T Park, Barry Zito jammed with the band (video)

On Friday, May 3, the San Francisco Giants will pay tribute to some of the great city’s favorite sons, Metallica, with a tribute night at AT&T Park. While Metallica technically was formed in Los Angeles in 1981, the band relocated to San Francisco Bay Area early on at the request of bassist Cliff Burton (the more you know). As part of the buildup to the festivities, Giants...

D-backs look to bounce back vs. Bumgarner, Giants

While the Giants turn to Madison Bumgarner as he tries to continue his strong start, they also hope star third baseman Pablo Sandoval has not aggravated an injury that nagged him during spring training. With Sandoval's status uncertain, Bumgarner will try to help the visiting Giants build on their first victory in a week when he takes the mound Tuesday night against the Diamondbacks...

Giants dying to put it together

It's pretty clear to this guy that the 2013 Giants are another crazy squad full of comebacks and torture. There's just something in the water over at the Cove that makes this team simultaneously maddening and magical. We're still in April, so that's why no one should be freaking out. We've seen this team go through pretty bad stretches of baseball en route to...

Tony Campana steals three bases during one at bat

Former Chicago Cub Tony Campana is one of the fastest men in baseball. After being acquired by the Diamondbacks this winter, Campana lost out on his bid to make the major league roster, and is currently playing with AAA Reno. On Saturday night, Campana did something pretty cool in the Aces' game against the Fresno Grizzlies: he stole all three bases in one inning. Furthermore...

Giants' Belt breaks tie in 8th inning

Brandon Belt hit a two-run single in the eighth inning, helping the San Francisco Giants beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4 Monday night to end a five-game losing streak. Belt also had a solo homer in the second inning against Ian Kennedy. The first baseman broke a 4-all tie in the eighth after Brad Ziegler (1-1) gave up a leadoff double to Nick Noonan and walked two. Marco Scutaro...

D-backs cooled off as Giants snap five-game skid

PHOENIX (AP) -- Brandon Belt hit a two-run single in the eighth inning, helping the San Francisco Giants beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4 Monday night to end a five-game losing streak. Belt also had a solo homer in the second inning against Ian Kennedy. The first baseman broke a 4-all tie in the eighth after Brad Ziegler (1-1) gave up a leadoff double to Nick Noonan and walked...

D-backs bullpen in disarray after another blown save

PHOENIX -- Right now, there isn't even much more to be said about the Diamondbacks bullpen, which on Wednesday notched a blown save for the second straight night to increase its major league lead to 10. Overworked? Probably. Too many mistake pitches? Perhaps. Whatever the explanation, the D-backs bullpen has fallen into disarray no one could have seen coming when the team came...

Montero: Unhappy Upton needed change of scenery

PHOENIX -- Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero is hardly surprised that Justin Upton broke loose with a 12-home run April in his new Atlanta home. He has seen Upton flex before. That does mean Upton would have done the same had he stayed in Sedona red, Montero said. We all know he is capable of that,'' said Montero, who played with Upton from 2007 to 2012. "The big...

Rank Relief: Panda wanted to play tonight.

This is best posterized picture I’ve been able to capture. We caught Sandoval salivating over his tater tot. The Arizona Diamondbacks provide plenty of fodder for rank relief between Heath Bell and JJ Putz.  This time it was our man JJ stepping up to the plate.  Like our other rank relief feature tonight, the Diamondbacks took a 1-0 lead into the 9th inning.  Putz hasn’t been...
