Two key injury updates today from various writers on Twitter (Michael Sanserino, Rob Biertempfel, Tom Singer):
**Charlie Morton exited last night’s game with a left foot injury. Morton went back to Pittsburgh to get the foot evaluated. The good news is that it doesn’t seem to be too serious, as Morton will go to Texas to join the team, where he will throw a bullpen to test the foot. Morton will throw his bullpen session on Wednesday. I’m sure that will determine whether he can make his next start, but for now it looks like he avoided any serious injury.
**Wandy Rodriguez will throw a 65-70 pitch sim game on Thursday at PNC Park. A few days ago I wrote about the rehab process, and how the Pirates could get Rodriguez back as a starter by piggybacking him. This is another alternative. He wouldn’t be pitching in a real game situation, but he’d be getting his pitches in. After 65-70 pitches, the rehab process usually goes to 5 innings and 80 pitches, then 6 and 90, followed by the first start at 100 pitches. The Pirates could conceivably bring Rodriguez back for that 5/80 start if all goes well in this simulated game.
