So with Week 9 approaching we enter the second half of the regular season of the NFL. With the Fantasy season well under way, and by now many leagues have a clear indication of what teams are playoff bound, and what teams will be fighting for the fantasy equivalent of Andrew Luck.

Today we look at the players out there who are pushing to be crowned Fantasy MVP’s as we enter the latter parts of the season. (All points based on standard NFL.com scoring)

For me Newton has been the fantasy stud of this year. More than likely he wasn’t taken till the mid to late rounds, and in the majority of leagues he wouldn’t have even been drafted at all. A mad waiver rush to pick him up after his breathtaking NFL debut against the Arizona Cardinals, in which he scored close to 31 fantasy points. Since then Newton has gone on to amass 18 touchdowns both on the ground and the air, and has scored more points than the Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rogers. With 8 games still to go Newton is on course for over 4500 yards and over 35 touchdowns. If he comes anywhere near that, and based on draft value he has to be the fantasy MVP.

Possibly the number one draft choice in your fantasy league. AP started off with a few shaky games that would have had you sweating under your collar, but the Minnesota bell cog has churned his way to 10 total TD’s and just shy of 800 yards rushing. With Christian Ponder, now the starting QB, showing the potential that saw him taken with the 12th overall pick of the NFL draft, more and more holes are starting to open up for the 5th year runner out of Oklahoma.

If Newton was the bargain of the draft, then Fred Jackson must be right there behind him. Possibly as late as a 7th round pick for Buffalo runner. While nobody really saw the explosion that has occurred in the Bills offence, those that gambled on Jackson to repeat some of his 2009 stats have not been disappointed. Over 1,000 all purpose yards already, the former undrafted rookie is on for a huge fantasy season. While only 6 TD’s stop him from being the top scoring fantasy back, his consistent ability to put 100+ yard games up makes him one of the most lucrative players in the game this year. Many people predict the Bills to slow down in the latter part of the season, but if he can keep this up he is a definite shout for fantasy MVP.

Now for the biggest bust of the year. No surprises here really,

CJ2K held out over the lockout to get the money he, and many fantasy owners of CJ over the past two years, thought he deserved. He got paid, and was more than likely a first round pick in your draft. How unlucky for you. It was said recently that if you find a team with Chris Johnson, you find a losing record, and that has to be true. His production has been terrible; just over 450 yards all purpose and just ONE rushing touchdown. Gone are the days of CJ2K, and here are the days of CJ No Way.

If you own him…. shop him out there, get rid of him, and cut your ties. If you can get him however don’t’ be too hasty to pass him up, someone of his ability might be capable of a big game soon.
