Joston Thomas will be leaving the Island for the NBA draft.

Thomas has decided to forgo his senior year of eligibility to enter the NBA draft. The last time a Warriors basketball player was drafted in the NBA draft was in 1989.

Reggie Cross was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1989 NBA draft. He was drafted in the second round.

“It’s been a lifetime goal of Joston’s to be a professional basketball player,” said Hawaii head coach Gib Arnold. “I fully support him and his desire to achieve this goal. Joston has made great strides as both a person and as a player while affiliated with the University of Hawai’i.”

Thomas played two years with the Warriors men’s basketball team. He transferred to the team from Southern Idaho.

He averaged 11.7 points and 5.2 rebounds in 63 career games for the Warriors.

“I want to thank my ‘ohana here in Hawai’i,” said Thomas. “From the coaches, administration, fans and the team — all 15 of them. This was an amazing opportunity for me and I look forward to my future. None of this would be possible without the support I’ve had here.”
