CORAL GABLES, Fla. How big have the second-ranked Hurricanes become in Miami? The Heat are getting ideas from them. Heat stars LeBron James and Dwyane Wade attended the Feb. 9 game between the Miami and North Carolina. When Hurricanes guard Shane Larkin threw a pass off the backboard on a fastbreak to center Kenny Kadji for a dunk, James and Wade went wild. They went crazy again after watching the replay on the videoboard. The next week, James approached Wade and suggested the two make that part of their repertoire. So Wade threw the ball off the backboard in last Sundays All-Star Game for a James dunk. He did it again Wednesday at Atlanta. We had a conversation (in which James said), You never throw it off the glass to me,' Wade said. It was UM (that provided the idea). We give them the credit. The college guys gladly will take it. A little inspiration by the Hurricanes, I heard, coach Jim Larranaga said Thursday. Not that those guys need any inspiration on how to dunk the ball. The Hurricanes were flying home last Sunday night following a win at Clemson, so they missed the All-Star Game. But when they saw highlights of Wades pass from that game and then saw him do it again Wednesday, they had to wonder. It was a little weird at first seeing them do that because they were just at our game and now theyre doing that, Hurricanes big man Julian Gamble said. Gamble saw later that Wade had credited the Hurricanes, which thrilled Gamble. Theyre saying they got this from two college kids, Gamble said of Wade and James. Thats cool to see two of the greatest players in the NBA today do something like that. Theyre our idols and somebody we look up to. Miami center Reggie Johnson said James and Wade copying the Hurricanes makes it special. Its two of the best players in the league doing it, Johnson said. It aint like its JaVale McGee and (Ty) Lawson (of Denver). Its the faces of the NBA. It was really cool. You got NBA players, All-Stars, saying they got it from college kids. So Im pretty sure Kenny and Shane (who werent available Thursday for comment) are soaking that in and enjoying it. And Im pretty sure Twitter is blowing up over it. Actually, Johnson provided something else Thursday for Twitter to blow up about. When the topic of James came up, he called him the second-best player in the league right now.'' Asked to clarify, Johnson said, "Kobe Bryant is the best player in the league.'' So would Johnson say that to James face? "I'd definitely tell LeBron," Johnson said. "I actually told LeBron that when he first signed (with the Heat in 2010). We kind of got into it, jokingly or whatever ... So I have (said that) to his face before. Johnson said he was shooting with James in Miami and the Heat star hit a jump shot and said two-time MVP. " James, who since has added a third trophy, then heard this back from Johnson. I said, You're not even the best right now. It's Kobe,' Johnson said. He said, 'I'll take that. Anytime. We'll see, or something like that. Nevertheless, Johnson does respect James. "It's personal, not business," Johnson said. Personally, I think Kobe is better. In Miami and South Florida, LeBron is the man. Don't get me wrong, I respect LeBron. I think LeBron is a heck of a player, don't get me wrong. But I'm a Kobe fan from Day 1. Yeah, but Bryant hasn't been emulating any Hurricanes moves lately. LeBron banks home left-handed three-pointer

LeBron James hits a bank, left-handed 3-point shot against the Chicago Bulls simply because he can.

LeBron James gets booed by Hawks fans after dissapointing dunk (Video)

Under most circumstances, a LeBron James dunk even at away arenas would draw a chorus of cheers but earlier tonight, fans in Atlanta weren't exactly pleased with his effort. In the first quarter of play, LeBron had a breakaway dunk thanks to a nice pass from Mario Chalmers but instead of throwing down a highlight dunk, he did simple two-handed jam. That got some fans in Atlanta...

Kobe Bryant Says LeBron James Is in ‘Same Room’ as He Is

In the wake of Michael Jordan‘s 50th birthday, there’s been a lot of NBA talk comparing His Airness, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James and their place in the history of basketball. Well, now Bryant, himself, is weighing in with his opinion. On Wednesday, Bryant sat down for an interview with ESPN Radio Los Angeles (compiled here by Sports Radio Interviews) where he touched on numerous...

LeBron James and Fiance Savanah Brinson on the Outs?

The man is on fire on the basketball court. With the way he is playing he is an almost lock to win the MVP--and the season has plenty of action still to come! Nothing is going wrong professionally for the man, but when something seems to be going so right in one area of life how often does that mean that another area suffers? That appears to be the case for LeBron. Rumor has...

Former Detroit Bad Boy Isiah Thomas says LeBron James is “a better athlete than Michael Jordan”

Recently, the comparisons of Michael Jordan and LeBron James increased in volume across the media.  ESPN Chicago got a few words from Hall of Famer and former Detroit “Bad Boy” Isiah [...]

LeBron James Left Handed Bank Shot (GIF)

As you can tell by the 86-67 final score, the Chicago Bulls are no match for the Miami Heat without their star Derrick Rose.  LeBron James pretty much shoots over 60% from the field on a nightly basis these days.  Last night was no different.  James went 11-15 (73%), and started shooting with his left hand just to rub some salt in the wound.  This particular shot was after the...

Video: Peter Holt jokes with Pop, reminds him Spurs title-less since '07

The last time the San Antonio Spurs carried away the NBA crown was in 2007 when they swept LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Since then, the team has been in a drought. They have gotten close like last year when they marched to the Western Conference Finals but came up short against the Thunder and will look to win it all again this season. Spurs owner Peter Holt recently...

Oregon Zoo Taught an Arthritic Sea Otter to Dunk a Basketball (Video)

Wow, just crazy awesome to watch this video.  Meet Eddie who is a geriatric sea otter at the Oregon Zoo.  The Zoo had to teach Eddie how to play basketball to help with his arthritis in his elbows.  Surprisingly he's really good.  I'm guessing he would probably be able to beat LeBron James in a dunk contest, but we all know LeBron is too scared to enter one anyway. ...

LeBron James butchers Justin Bieber’s song at NBA All-Star game, apologizes to the Biebs on Twitter

Want to see hear what it sounds like when LeBron James sings? Yes, we know you do and thankfully for us he did during the 2013 NBA All-Star Game, on the jumbotron no less.

Three observations: Heat outclass Hawks in 4th

Three observations from the Miami Heat's runaway win vs. the Hawks on Wednesday night: 1. There are two opposing concepts that come to mind when watching the Heat play lesser competition this season: either the defending NBA champs take their time searching for ways to efficiently attack an opponent such as the Atlanta Hawks ... or LeBron James & Co., simply turn it on and...

James has 24, streaking Heat beat Hawks

ATLANTA (AP) -- The Miami Heat turned to two veterans off the bench to spark a dramatic fourth-quarter turnaround that kept their longest winning streak of the season alive. Ray Allen and Shane Battier combined for 24 points in the fourth quarter, and the Heat scored the first 13 points of the period to erase Atlanta's 10-point lead and beat the Hawks 103-90 on Wednesday night...

Joe Johnson Makes Two Perfect Last-Second Shots In One Game

There are two types of great buzzer-beaters. The first kind is the end result of a well-executed inbounds play, one that involves screens and misdirection and ends with a shooter getting open just long enough to rise up for a clean shot at the rim. (See: LeBron James saving Cleveland's season in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals). Then there are the buzzer-beaters that...

Dwight Howard Dresses Like an American Girl (Photo)

We often chide Russell Westbrook or Dwyane Wade for their fashion blunders, but let’s not forget the decisive Dwight Howard.  I present this picture without comment, but he kinda looks like those American Girl dolls. H/T  @FiyahPowahThe post Dwight Howard Dresses Like an American Girl (Photo) appeared first on The NBA Mistress.

Cute sea otter taught to dunk basketballs to help his arthritis (Video)

I’m not sure why I wrote “cute” in the headline, since “cute” and “sea otter” are synonymous, but I just wanted to make sure you watched this. In the video is Eddie, a 16-year-old sea otter who lives at the Oregon Zoo. Eddie has arthritis in his elbows, so his caretakers taught him to play basketball to help with his condition. The little guy gets tossed a toy basketball...
