The Daily Sports Herald:
U.S. Women's National Team goalkeeper Hope Solo will be out of action approximately 3-4 months after undergoing successful surgery on Thursday to repair torn cartilage in her left wrist. Solo previously had been playing through the long-standing injury.
Solo recently was allocated to the Seattle Reign of the new National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), which begins play in April. As a result of her surgery, Solo will likely miss at least the first half of the NWSL season.
Since becoming a starter for the U.S. in 2005, Solo has established herself as one of the world's best at her position, winning the best goalkeeper award at the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany. She currently has 135 caps for the U.S.
The U.S. team is currently participating in the 2013 Algarve Cup in Portugal, where it will play Sweden in its final Group B game on March 11.
