The Awesome Boston:
A.B. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman needs to follow NBA commissioner David Stern’s move an announce his upcoming retirement. Every day that passes without hockey is another nail in the NHL’s coffin. The deeper we get into the NBA season and the closer we get to the NFL playoffs, the less people usually care about hockey. But without a season at all – people may even forget about the sport as a whole. I know people in Texas & Oklahoma don’t care either way, but for the sanity of us cold weather folk – we NEED hockey.
So here is the simple fix: remove Gary Buttman Bettman. No one wants to negotiate with someone they don’t like, and no one likes this Grinch.

from Adrain Dater of All Things Avs,
I asked one “insider” today whether there was any hope for a season still. The response: “Zero hope…season is done.”
I told him “Please don’t mince words.”
So, not encouraging there. Of course, that could be posturing. No wait, it almost certainly is posturing. But we’re used to that aren’t we? This whole thing...
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will stand at a podium at some point and announce the end of his sport's latest work stoppage.
It will be the third time he has done so. The first work stoppage resulted in the loss of nearly half the 1994-95 season, the second in all of the 2004-05 season. Hopefully, the third work stoppage will result in only a slightly truncated schedule.
from Christopher Botta of SportsBusiness Journal at The Sporting News,
Experienced league-side executives refuse to count out Bettman, no matter how long this third lockout drags on.
Robert Caporale, an alternate governor for the Pittsburgh Penguins from 1991-97, said much the same. “Gary has to lead 30 owners who, quite frankly, are not used to being led in their other...

As the NHL/NHLPA labor discussions drag on without foreseeable resolution, some players have stepped forward to publicly criticize the tactics and motives of NHL commisionner Gary Bettman. The league recently canceled the schedule of games through November 30 and withdrew their most recent CBA offer, which was closest to the expected 50-50 HRR (hockey-related revenue) [...]
Definitely a good idea and something that will gain some laughs if it ever becomes mainstream enough. But, it is worth noting that NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is just doing what the Owners want him to do and it is not entirely his fault. That being said, it was reported earlier Tuesday that the Winter Festival that was set to take place at Comerica Park is going to be cancelled...
In an effort to lighten the mood during the lockout, The New York Rangers Blog will be writing faux recaps for every Rangers game missed due to the work stoppage. Enjoy.

from Tim Sassone of the Chicago Daily-Herald,

from Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review,
Gary Bettman’s lost hockey season is Donald Fehr’s wrecked World Series — legacies that haunt the respective heads of the NHL and Players’ Association.
Forget the record revenue generated last season by an NHL that can claim a salary-cap system and a major network broadcast partner. Pay no mind to the organization...
