Texas A&M's season opener against Louisiana Tech scheduled for Thursday night in Shreveport, La., has been postponed until Oct. 13 with Hurricane Isaac due to make landfall along the Louisiana coast Wednesday. "Our primary concern was for the health and safety of the general public, students and fans of both institutions," Louisiana Tech Athletics Director Bruce Van De Velde said. "It's impossible to predict exactly what is going to happen throughout the state so we also wanted to be conscientious of the possible effects of his storm on residents throughout Louisiana. "As much as both teams wanted to play, the safety of everyone took precedent over a football game, even one of this magnitude. We simply couldn't move forward with Thursday's kickoff in good conscience knowing what this storm may do. We appreciate the cooperation of Mayor (Cedric) Glover and the City of Shreveport and the Independence Bowl as well as Texas A&M University." Oct. 13 was previously an open date for both teams, who will now play their season openers Sept. 8 with Texas A&M playing host to Florida and Louisiana Tech traveling to Houston. The kickoff time for the Oct. 13 game has not yet been announced. "I know Coach (Kevin) Sumlin and our Aggie football team were ready to play, but the safety and well- being of our Aggie fans, our student-athletes as well as the residents of Louisiana is paramount," Texas A&M Director of Athletics Eric Hyman said. The Aggies also announced that previously purchased tickets and parking permits will be honored, but no refunds will be issued. Texas A&M-Louisiana State is the second college football game to be canceled due to Isaac. South Alabama vs. Texas-San Antonio scheduled for Thursday night in Mobile, Ala., was canceled earlier on Tuesday
