Rankin is from Orlando, FL where he played his high school football at East River for Marc Rankin.    After Rankin’s senior season he was named to the Prep-Star All-Southeast Region Team. He was a 4-Star Prospect according to 247sports (16th ILB) and ESPN (13th ILB, 296th Overall) and a 3-Star according to Rivals (24th ILB) and Scout (38th ILB).
