A historically bad season has cost two Indiana defensive coaches their jobs.
Coach Kevin Wilson said Friday defensive coordinator Doug Mallory and defensive line coach Jon Fabris would not return next season. Mallory was the assistant head coach in charge of defensive backs and is the son of Bill Mallory, the Hoosiers' most successful head coach.
The moves were no surprise after Indiana allowed 38.8 points and 527.9 yards per game, both school records. Indiana has yielded at least 400 yards and 31 points per game to opponents for six straight seasons. Mallory was hired by Wilson three years ago. Fabris just finished his second season in Bloomington.
The Hoosiers (5-7, 3-5 Big Ten) wound up one win short of becoming bowl eligible.
Wilson called Mallory and Fabris ''solid coaches.''
