The overhaul continues in the Colts organization today.  It started with Peyton Manning with the coming of first overall draft pick Andrew Luck.  Next to go with contracts expiring are linebacker Dwight Freeney and wide receiver Austin Collie.  They will both hit the open market. Look for Freeney to get picked up by a team that operates in the 4-3 defense.  He was forced to function with the 3-4 when head coach Chuck Pagano took the reigns.  The future hall of famer is 33 years old, so I would imagine he would go to a team in need of situational pass rushing.  Freeney only recorded 5 sacks in 2012, most likely due to a lack of comfort transitioning to outside linebacker within the 3-4 defense. Indy Star’s Bob Kravitz says the Colts have the intentions of putting Dwight Freeney’s name in the Lucas Oil Stadium’s ring of honor. AP Photo/Mark Duncan Austin Collie’s season ended in September of last year due to a ruptured patellar tendon suffered in his first game back from a series of concussions.  That’s been the story with Collie.  He was one of Peyton’s favorite targets, and could have very well put up Wes Welker numbers had he not fallen prey to several concussions.  The Colts are in a position where they don’t have to be patient with Collie anymore with rookie T.Y. Hilton on the roster.  Perhaps if Collie can stay healthy, he might be welcome with his old QB in Denver. With Freeney and Collie gone, that will leave Robert Mathis and Reggie Wayne as the last remaining juggernauts of a dominant Colts team.   Follow Us On Twitter!  @DownandDistance Sports-Kings Down and Distance Contributor Austin Peat  @PistolPeat187   The post Indy Will Not Re-Sign Dwight Freeney and Austin Collie appeared first on DOWN & DISTANCE.

Should the Broncos go after Dwight Freeney?

The Indianapolis Colts informed Dwight Freeney today that they will not re-sign him, and thus, he is free to sign with whoever he wants. The Broncos have a lot of money tied up in the younger Dumervil (29)(Freeney is 33), and not much on the other side of the line, where Freeney plays. Sure, the Broncos have Wolfe, but he’s better inside. Robert Ayers plays Freeney’s position...

According to Bob Kravitz of the Indy Star, the Colts have released wide receiver Austin Collie and have informed defensive end/linebacker Dwight Freeney that they won’t be re-signing him. Freeney simply wasn’t a good fit in the Colts 3-4 defense.  He needs to go back to playing in a 4-3 as a defensive end. Collie on the other hand could never stay healthy.  He is a heck of...

Colts Linebacker Dwight Freeney(Photo: Indy Star) Goodbye, old friend. There are certain players you have a kinship with.
