The talk coming from the Rangers the past few days has suggested that, given environmental factors, the club is likely to look internally for roster help. In theory, one of the primary benefits of having a top farm system is that you may be able to actually find immediate help on your farm system. Looking back at many successful teams, those with good farm systems often bolstered their runs by looking internally. Francisco Rodriguez pitched five regular season innings in 2002 for the Angels, then went on to dominate in their playoff run. The Red Sox have used quality contributions from mid-late season rookie call-ups like Jonathan Papelbon, Manny Delcarmen, Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz and Justin Masterson from 2005-08. The Rockies in 2007 rode late season promotee Franklin Morales to a remarkable September and playoff run.
