Peter Jok and Jared Uthoff will be joining an already deep Iowa roster during the 2013-14 season. Playing time will be hard to come by in head coach Fran McCaffery’s deep rotation featuring Big Ten standouts Devyn Marble and Aaron White. With the exception to Marble and White, every spot in the starting lineup is up for grabs going into next season. Gabe Olaseni is pushing Adam Woodbury for the starting center position. Marble is locked in at the point for next year, thus the 2 and 3 positions are still open. Jok and Uthoff have stood out so far in the Prime Time League and the Hawkeye newcomers are closing on starting spots for the 2013-14 campaign. It appears Iowa has found a solution to their outside shooting woes. Jok’s shooting ability has wowed the  North Liberty Community Center crowd through the first two weeks of Prime Time League action. Last Sunday night, Jok made 10-of-15 field goals – including 4-of-5 from deep – en route to scoring 32 points in a 101-88 victory. The incoming freshman has more than impressed during his first two weeks of Prime Time League competition. He’s an undeniable top tier talent and fans are starting to see why he was a high profiled recruit before suffering a devastating  knee injury. Jok did lose some explosiveness after the injury, but he’s still capable of being a go-to scorer at the collegiate level. The Des Moines Valley product is the Prime Time League’s leading scorer, averaging 28.5 points per game. Uthoff hasn’t put up the scoring numbers like Jok has, but his impact on the floor extends well beyond scoring. The former Wisconisn Badger might be the most versatile player on the Hawkeye roster. He basically does everything imaginable on a basketball court; he can shoot, drive, create for himself and others, rebound and defend, making the game look easy. Game after game Uthoff has the fullest stat sheet of any player in the Prime Time League. Uthoff is a smooth athlete that’ll probably play the 3 or 4 in head coach Fran McCaffery’s system. He and Athony Clemmons have been the driving forces behind their team’s undefeted start. Hawkeye fans shouldn’t be surprised if either player makes their way into McCaffery’s starting lineup next season. Their Prime Time League performances have so far justified the hype surrounding these two well-known prospects. Jok’s shooting should aid the 317th worst three point shooting team in the country – Iowa only converting 30% of their 3-point attempts – while Uthoff’s versatility is a perfect match for the stretch forward role in McCaffery’s system. Look for both of these players to make major contributors to the 2013-14 Hawkeye squad.
