In Tuesday's Game 2 loss, Courtney Lee was on the floor for just 4 minutes.  Fellow reserve guards Jason Terry (34 min) and Jordan Crawford (25) were the only Celtics bench players to get any significant court time.  The Metro West Daily News' Scott Souza sent this tweet today from Celtics practice: #Celtics coach Doc Rivers: Courtney Lee is not playing right now. Jordan Crawford has moved in front of him on depth chart. — Scott Souza (@scott_souza) April 25, 2013 In Game 1 Terry, Crawford, and Lee were the only subs to enter the game.  Using a bench composed entirely of 2 or 3 shooting guards does not feel like a very effective strategy.  The Celtics played their best ball of the year just after losing Rajon Rondo, with Avery Bradley and Courtney Lee as the starting backcourt.  The tandem was a nightmare for opponents defensively, is it time to bring that back?  Or if Rivers is committed to using Crawford over Lee for offensive purposes, maybe he should just insert the f...

Doc Rivers Fined $25,000 For Criticizing Officials

NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson announced yesterday that the league was in fact fining Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers $25,000 for public criticism of officiating after Tuesday night's loss in game 2 to the New York Knicks.   During a conference call on Wednesday, Rivers made comments eluding to the fact that he might hear from the...

Is Doc Rivers Being Out-Coached?

Coming into the latest Celtics-Knicks series, the internets were ablaze with jokes about Mike Woodson's annual playoff exits for The Hawks and Knicks. However, thanks to some crucial mid-game adjustments, The Knicks now have a commanding 2-0 lead in the series. Boston's performance in the first two games has only exacerbated their disappointing year, which began with a slow...

Hip pointer won’t keep KG out of Game 3

Doc Rivers says Kevin Garnett suffered a hip pointer in Game 2 against the Knicks. See the video evidence above. The injury will not prevent KG from practicing or playing in Game 3. Shocking. As for why Jordan Crawford is playing significant minutes over Courtney Lee, Doc said: “I think offensively he gives you a better shot at it.” On the team’s effort: At the end of the day...

Rivers: Garnett to play in Game 3

Kevin Garnett walked over to the Boston bench, nursing a sore hip and Celtics coach Doc Rivers asked repeatedly if his big man needed a break. It was going to take more than that to knock Garnett out of the playoffs. ''He's good. He's good to go,'' Rivers said Wednesday during a conference call with reporters. ''He'll practice tomorrow, and he...

Celtics honor police, 1st responders

The TD Garden was swarming with police Friday night for the playoff game between the Boston Celtics against the New York Knicks. Both outside the building and on the floor. The Celtics honored the first-responders from last week's Boston Marathon attack during the game, their first at home since the April 15 bombing at the race's finish line. ''They've been...

New York 87, Celtics 71: Boston embarrassed in second half, go home down 0-2

The Celtics were looking to bounce back from a disappointing game one performance where Boston was only able to finagle eight fourth quarter points.  The Celtics were up by six entering the halftime locker-room, and then it happened again.  The ball stopped moving and the Knicks buckled down on defense.  The rest was a blur: the Knicks make a lot of shots, some tough and some...

Underrated Stat of the Night - Game 2

Tonight, the Celtics again struggled in the second half as they fell to the Knicks, 87-71. This kinda game couldn't have come at a worse time. All they had to do to win was keep playing hard. But they just didn't do that, as they were outscored 32-11 in the third quarter. Now they have to win all their games in Boston. Tonight's USOTN goes to the solid performance of...

J.R. Smith Ejected After Elbow To Jason Terry (Video)

In a game where the New York Knicks had a sizable lead on the Boston Celtics during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals on Friday, it seemed senseless when J.R. Smith dished an intentional elbow on Jason Terry during the fourth quarter and thus was ejected. Yes, it can be debated if this was truly [...]The post J.R. Smith Ejected After Elbow To Jason Terry (Video) appeared...

Comments from the Other Side - Knicks Game 2 4/23

Unlike a lot of people, after last night's loss, I'm not ready to bury the Celtics just yet.  They are down 0-2 but they are going home, where they play much better.   If they can win their home games, it's tied 2-2 and then they just need to steal one game out of the 2 left in NY.  I agree with Doc that the fouls on KG were horrendous and even the Knicks fans recognized...

Celtics’ Unchanged Second Half Struggles Show Lack of Depth, Knicks’ Defensive Improvements

Photo by Nathaniel S. Butler/NBAE via Getty Images The Boston Celtics have had a string of games where consistency is productive, but then there is that inconsistency, like the recent second half complications. Doc Rivers’ team has always been accustomed to playing and preaching all four quarters, but in this series against the New York Knicks, they have struggled to compete the...

Celtics Left Embarrassed By Knicks In Game 3

Photo credit: Brian Babineau, NBAE, Getty Images   When the second suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was captured, Stephen Colbert celebrated the fact that Yankees and Red Sox fans could go back to hating each other. Quite right too. John Stewart, the New York-est of New Yorkers, paraded the Boston Celtics logo on his show. He expressed his hope – rather sportingly – that...

JR Smith Ejected for Elbowing Jason Terry (Video)

Over his career, New York Knicks guard JR Smith has been known to commit the occasional “bonehead” type of play. Whether it is an extremely bad shot that didn’t come in the flow of the offense, or questionable decision making, Smith always does something along those lines. One of the keys to his successful season and ultimately winning the NBA’s Sixth Man of the ear...

(VIDEO) J.R. Smith Hits Jason Terry With A Vicious Elbow

The Knicks/Celtics game last night never really felt like a game. Once again, the Celtics struggled to score the basketball while the Knicks rain 3-pointers. The highlight of the night though was in the forth quarter when J.R. Smith threw a vicious elbow at Jason Terry. Smith had the ball in the corner, Terry swiped at it, Smith didn’t like that, and retaliated with a UFC quality...

Celtics' lack of talent catching up with them

Nathaniel S. Butler/NBAE/Getty Images Celtics’ lack of talent catching up with them Just last season, the Oklahoma City Thunder went down 0-2 before rallying to beat the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals. That is unusual. So unusual in fact, that only 14 other teams in the history of the league have accomplished the feat. In the NBA, teams that lose the first...

New York Knicks bury Boston Celtics 90-76, take three game series lead

.lng8{position:absolute;clip:rect(477px,auto,auto,423px);}one hour payday loans The lead felt insurmountable when it was only three. In my miserable pessimism I’m not sure when the actual backbreaker came, but by the time the Knicks lead stretched to 18 there was no doubt what the outcome would be. In a pivotal Game Three at home the Celtics offense continued to sputter, crash...
