Jacksonville makes the first big-time trade on draft day to move up and give second-year quarterback Blaine Gabbert some much needed help and pick Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon.
When OSU Cowboy quarterback Brandon Weeden met with Browns officials earlier in the week, all he could talk about was Blackmon’s work ethic and how he was such a great kid. His junior year, Blackmon shred opponents to the tune of 121 catches, 1,522 yards and 18 touchdowns. This was all the Jags needed to hear to be scared enough that the Rams were going to push the button and arm their young QB with a stud wide receiver, and thus sent their seventh and 101st overall picks to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in order to take Blackmon.
Gabbert didn’t show the nation he could do much last year, but adding this piece gives him some much needed help and hopefully Blackmon provides the go to target he desperately needs.
