The Red Sox have missed their leadoff hitter during the last 16 games, but on Wednesday night Jacoby Ellsbury will be back back in his spot. After fracturing a bone in his right foot, Ellsbury returns to the lineup with four regular-season games to be played, and the center fielder hopes to be 100 percent by the time the playoffs roll around. With Ellsbury hitting .299 this season and leading the league with 52 stolen bases, the Red Sox will need him healthy down the stretch to make a deep postseason run. Check out what WEEI’s Rob Bradford has to say about the impact of Ellsbury’s return in the above video. Dustin Pedroia likely needs surgery

The Guru Contributing Writer Al Messerschmidt/Getty Images Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia has played all season long with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his thumb. The Sox second baseman suffered the injury on Opening Day against the Yankees. Despite the injury, Pedroia has appeared in 158 of Boston's 159 games this season. While we never had to start a Buchholz...

Meat or Gravy?: The Boston Red Sox’ upcoming post-season

Raise your hands if you thought at the beginning of the season that the Boston Red Sox would be sitting here in the final week of the regular season, a post-season trip already assured through a division championship and an opportunity to clinch the best record in all of baseball. I’ll wait. (Sits there) (Checks a couple of e-mails…oh nice craft-beer special at Total Wine) (Looks...

Middlebrooks Unleashed, Yankees’ Run Ceased

The Red Sox have already surpassed my wildest September dreams, so I am able to dismiss their erratic play of late — only 2-2 since clinching last Friday, but against teams they should be liquidating, like Toronto and Colorado — as perhaps working out the kinks before the playoffs. With last night’s pulverizing of the Rockies, highlighted by a 7 RBI night from Will Middlebrooks...

Will Middlebrooks, Red Sox One Step Closer to Locking Up AL’s Top Seed After Huge Offensive Effort in Colorado

The Red Sox are one step closer to securing home-field advantage. The Red Sox entered Wednesday’s game against the Rockies with the luxury of knowing that the Athletics already lost to the Angels. Boston proceeded to take care of business behind a relentless offensive attack. The Red Sox racked up 16 hits in a 15-5 rout, and Boston will now head to Baltimore with a two-game edge...

Middlebrooks bat helps Boston Red Sox split series with Rockies

Coming off a poorly pitched game on Tuesday night in their 8-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies, the Boston Red Sox rebounded nicely on Wednesday to finish the brief two game series with a 15-5 win on Wednesday. Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks sparked the Boston bats this series including a seven RBI night on Wednesday. Those seven RBIs included two home runs including a grand...

Vote: Which Red Sox Pitcher Would You Start in Game 1 of the Division Series?

The Red Sox are locked, loaded and ready for postseason action. Just a few games and about a week of off days separate the Sox from playoff baseball and many fans in Red Sox Nation are wondering who will take the bump when the Sox host Game 1 of the ALDS at Fenway Park. Clay Buchholz, Jon Lester, John Lackey and Jake Peavy could all handle the ace role in October but only one will...

Grand jury indicts Sox broadcaster's son in murder

The son of Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy has been indicted by a Massachusetts grand jury for murder in the death of his girlfriend. Jared Remy has already pleaded not guilty in the stabbing death of Jennifer Martel. The Middlesex District Attorney's Office said Tuesday that Remy will be arraigned Oct. 8 in Superior Court. Remy is accused of repeatedly stabbing Martel...

Red Sox Should Keep Foot on Gas for Rest of Regular Season, As American League Playoff Schedule Allows for Plenty of Rest

The Red Sox have taken the American League East crown. That means it’s all playoff questions from here on out, with Boston still fighting for the top seed (and home-field advantage) in the American League. While a lot of pieces had to fall into place for the Red Sox to be as good as they are this season, just as many have to come together for Boston to continue its run and turn...

RSL Poll: Who gets the credit for 2013 success?

The Guru Contributing Writer As the Red Sox remarkable season winds down and the playoff talk begins, let's take a moment to deal out some credit. General manager Ben Cherington spent wisely and was able to put together a team capable of ignoring the chicken and beer and concentrate on winning. Manager John Farrell proved the man for the job and a worthy successor to his...

Sponsored Post – TiqIQ’s Red Sox Playoff Ticket Preview

Of all the teams that have a playoff position locked in, the Red Sox have the most expensive average ticket price on the secondary market. They also have the highest premium compared to their regular season average of any team in the playoffs. The 270% premium is ahead of both the Dodgers and Pirates, and an indication for how excited Red Sox fans are for an October run. If you...

Why do the Red Sox need homefield?

Photo Courtesy of ESPN Conor Frederick Contributing Writer According to ESPN, the Red Sox are a game ahead of the Oakland Athletics for the American League's best record. Keep an eye on that, because whoever gets the AL's best record gets home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Remember - the AL won the All Star Game, so they'll have home field in the World Series...

Middlebrooks destroys Colorado

Photo courtesy of the Globe Conor Frederick Contributing Writer Will Middlebrooks drove in almost half of the Red Sox runs last night with 2 swings of his bat. A 3-run shot to the opposite field and grand slam just inside the left field foul pole. It may have been Todd Helton's farewell in the Mile High City, but Middlebrooks ruined it by turning last night's game by turning...

Terry Francona’s Indians Are Among Baseball’s Best Stories, But Would Be Red Sox’ Most Desirable Opponent (Podcast)

The Red Sox know they will be playing into October this season, but which team they will meet in the postseason has yet to be determined. Boston is still battling with Oakland for the American League’s best record, and the Rays, Indians and Rangers continue to jostle for the league’s two wild card spots, meaning that AL playoff picture likely will not become crystal clear until...
