by Chris BurkeFiled under: Redskins, NFL Rumors, NFL QuarterbacksNFL castoff JaMarcus Russell, released by the Raiders in May after three disastrous seasons, was among a group of players to work out for the Redskins Monday, according to multiple reports -- a bit of news that could hint at another weird turn in the Redskins' sudden quarterback controversy. Washington offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said that "a couple of other quarterbacks" also worked out for the team in addition to Russell, The Washington Post reported. It was Mike Shanahan at the center of a firestorm following Sunday's loss at Detroit, in which the Redskins head coach benched starting QB Donovan McNabb with Washington trailing 25-20 late. Backup Rex Grossman fumbled on his first play and Detroit rookie Ndamukong Suh returned the loose ball for a touchdown. Grossman stayed in for the remainder of the game.
