Jeff Gordon took to the racetrack in Atlanta for the final race of the 1992 for his first Cup series start the same day that Richard Petty hung up his helmet. 20 years later DuPont is still a sponsor for Gordon’s Cup racing efforts. As part of the Acceleration weekend activities, Gordon and Petty were together again on the stage in the Great Hall of the NASCAR Hall of Fame as part of the unveiling of the paint scheme that Gordon will field when DuPont is his primary sponsor in 2012. The first officially licensed artist of NASCAR, Sam Bass, once again designed the paint scheme for Gordon’s car that was uncovered for the first time during the press conference Saturday. The predominantly black paint scheme will adorn Gordon’s No. 24 Chevrolet for 14 races during the 2012 season.
