MVN:
So now that Mark Sanchez is the official starting QB, let's examine the offense as we head into the pre-season finale. We have Sanchez, Cotchery, Jones and Keller as our primary options to matriculate the ball downfield. In total honesty, with the exception of an occasional YAC TD by Cotchery or Keller in the red zone, none of these guys will instill fear in defenses on paper. Then we have the rookie Shonn Greene, Stuckey, Clowney, Smith and Mr. WASHINGTON as the secondary options with explosive speed and playmaker ability. There is not going to be a lot of ways to defense the Jets running game if they execute the plays correctly and mix the run and screen pass properly. With Washington touching the ball 10-15 times per game by both run and pass, the team will offset defenses crowding the box against Jones and Greene when we clearly are lined up to run. Schotty will also pass to those backs as well to keep teams honest.Chanci Stuckey has done nothing but impress me his whole, albeit, brief career. That touchdown last week against the Giants was exactly the type of play that has me not too worried about our lack of experienced depth at the position. With his great football sense, the guy is a gamer who will make plays. He also has shown me more heart going over the middle on crossing routes than ANY of the current Giant receivers. David Clowney is a guy who needs to show me more than just touchdowns in pre-season. He is earning the nickname Mr. August in NY because of the performances in pre-season, now he needs to step up and make some plays when it counts. The guy is an absolute burner who can give Sanchez the option to give a quick heave downfield in single coverage for quick scores and that will free up Cotchery to make his possession plays and work the YAC.Dustin Keller, the ex-Boilermaker is a an absolute troublemaker for opposing defenses. There is no one player in the league that can cover him one on one. No one has the blend of speed and size that can match his skill set. His hands can catch a brick in traffic in the end zone. This is a guy that will make his mark this year in a big way. There are rumblings about a possible move for Brandon Marshall. I expect it to be a tricky one to pull off as the team would likely need at least a second round pick and a truck full of cash for a new contract that they still should back up for Mr Washington. I question his character with all of his past antics off the field and so far this pre-season pouting like a baby. The thought of him in this locker room with key vets like Scott, Jenkins and Faneca makes me think he could knock off the knucklehead behavior. The thought of him catching passes from Sanchez for years to come makes me think of Montana to RIce.
