After firing their general manager on Monday, the New York Jets are reportedly very interested in the 49ers' director of player personnel.
The New York Jets are reportedly high on San Francisco 49ers executive Tom Gamble as the team searches for a new general manager, Albert Breer of the NFL Network reported Tuesday.
Breer tweeted: "Also sounds like, early on, 49ers personnel man Tom Gamble is atop the Jets' list. Bill Polian apparently went to bat for him big-time w/NY."
The Jets fired general manager Mike Tannebaum on Monday after missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year and have begun their search immediately.
Gamble is the director of player personnel for the 49ers and has spent the past seven years with San Francisco. He was originally hired as the director of pro personnel and was promoted in February of 2011.

As many expected, the New York Jets have decided to part ways with General Manager Mike Tannenbaum on Monday, while making the decision to retain Head Coach Rex Ryan. While the Tannenbaum firing has been anticipated, it was unclear whether or not he would be outright fired, or reassigned to a salary cap management role.
This is the best move Owner Woody Johnson could have made. There...
The New York Jets have made a collection of intelligent decisions since their embarrassing season ending loss in Buffalo. Firing Mike Tannenbaum was a much needed start coupled with hiring Jed Hughes to lead the search for the team’s new General Manager. Credit Woody Johnson for recognizing he is not a football expert and needs assistance in selecting the proper person to run his...
The New York Jets announced that their season-ending press conference will be held on January 8th. That’s a big problem since the NFL requires teams to conduct their press conferences within one week of the season being over. The Jets are in fact in violation of the NFL’s media policy and I’m sure they’ll receive a fine.Deadspin found out that Jets head coach Rex Ryan...
Mark Sanchez wants to stay right where he is. So does Darrelle Revis.
The two players are among the New York Jets' biggest uncertainties heading into next season with Sanchez coming off a miserable year and Revis recovering from a serious knee injury while also having a sticky contract situation.
Sanchez says Monday that he ''absolutely'' believes he can lead...
Tebowmania was at a peak when the Jets brought Wildcat quarterback Tim Tebow over from the Denver Broncos last winter. The darling of the NFL went from riding a wave of popularity to riding the pine.
Now one New York City sporting goods store has used Tebow's status on the bench to help promoting New York Jets merchandise.
According to Darren Rovell's Twitter account, a...
A person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press that the New York Jets have not made a decision on the status of embattled offensive coordinator Tony Sparano.
While many fans and media have speculated that Sparano will be fired after one season with the Jets, the person says Wednesday that the team has not yet made a final determination - meaning there's a chance...
Florida could have actually used Tim Tebow last night in the Sugar Bowl as they got smashed by Louisville. It's hard to remember, but Tebow was once one of the great college football players in history with a Heisman Trophy and two national championships before he became a human debate pinata. He was there in New Orleans to watch the Gators defeat in person, and wouldn'...
Rex Ryan is off the hot seat, at least for another year. Jets owner Woody Johnson announced today that general manager Mike Tennenbaum would not be back with the team. Johnson released the following statement,
"Mike devoted 15 years of service to the Jets, and I want to thank him for his hard work and dedication. Although he helped guide us to two consecutive AFC Championship...
After what will be a nine-day hiatus, Rex Ryan and owner Woody Johnson will address reporters on Tuesday to wrap up the end of the Jets season.
The coach was not available on Monday when the players cleaned out their lockers and spoke to the media for the last time this season. The wait will make the Jets in violation of a league policy, which states in full:
Although Tony Sparano remains as the New York Jets offensive coordinator, it is being reported this morning at head coach Rex Ryan wants to replace him with another former head coach that was just fired, Norv Turner. There has been a complete media blackout by the Jets organization since the end of the season, and reporters have not been able to ask Ryan any direct questions. Ryan...
The New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan was involved in quite the dilemma. The New York Daily News released a story suggesting Ryan wouldn’t mind being fired if owner Woody Johnson didn’t make the appropriate offensive changes. Later in the afternoon Ryan spoke with his team, and completely disputed that claim, [...]
Tim Tebow cannot get a break this season. Well, except that huge contract he has that pays him to not really do anything. But the New York Jets backup QB is a punchline at this point, and even for Dick’s Sporting Goods. The New York-based chain put together an ad that pokes fun at Tebow’s non-playing status with the team. From Darren Rovell
Well the season is finally over. Mark Sanchez had the exact opposite game from his impressive performance in the season-opener against the Bills. The New York Jets (6-10) had their worst season in the Rex Ryan era and a few heads will likely roll, but let’s review this dreadful loss.

Mark Sanchez had an absolutely awful game against a dreadful Buffalo defense....
Poor Mannequin Tebow
The DEMISE of the New York Jets is like Xmas morning, winning the Super Bowl and finding Charlize Theron in your bed all wrapped into one. But you have to feel for Tim Tebow.
It’s bad enough that he was treated as a PR stunt and barely saw the field, but even his mannequin looks depressed riding the pine.
