The Classical launches in November, but the cruel folks behind it love baseball way too much to let the World Series pass without comment. Throughout the series, its writers will do a daily diary for Deadspin. Keep tabs on us @Classical. More »

FOX’s Tim McCarver tried to pull a fast one on the world, during the World Series, by changing the number of letters in the word “Strike.” Fortunately, many of the viewers have graduated from preschool allowing for the wool to not be pulled over their eyes.

It's too bad that the sports world doesn't offer approval ratings like you see with the president, because Tim McCarver might be the all-time record holder for lowest rating in the history of baseball. The FOX color analyst seems like a pretty nice guy, and he's got two World Series and two All-Star appearances on his baseball resume, but his broadcasts are ... not always...
Given the close St. Louis ties of Fox’s Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, the 2011 World Series will have “the bias conspirators will be out in full force,” writes The Allentown Morning-Call’s Keith Groller. I’m presuming by “conspirators”, Groller means “critics”. Unless he’s actually referring to the broadcasting duo.

According to legend-in-his-own-mind Fox baseball broadcaster, Tim McCarver the word S-T-R-I-K-E, is spelled with five letters.
No really, it is. Or not.
As you’ll see in the video above, in describing an Elvis Andrus strikeout, McCarver emphatically spells out strike and mentions that it has five letters.
Easy there big guy– don’t hurt that big brain of yours.
Says the man calling his 22nd World Series, “It’s a five letter word, S-T-R-I-K-E.”
Hey Tim, know what else is a five letter word, according to your new McCarver math? R-E-T-I-R-E.
Think about it.

In the words of the extremely hip Tim McCarver; "flick" your shoulder off, Ian. Maybe that was a remix to the Jay Z song, but I missed it.
Funny but FOX Sports played The "FOX NFL Sunday" Theme as the World Series Theme.Tim Mc Carver looks great with the grey hair. He looks better than he did with the Dye Job.La Russa looks quite Good with the Tinted Glasses.M
OK, it was one thing for Fox broadcaster Tim McCarver, off the top of his head, to state during Game 1 of the World Series that S-T-R-I-K-E was a "five-letter word." Such a mistake easily can be filed under the "we all make them" heading, and McCarver has done worse. But this Colby Lewis graphic — noticed by @FakeNedYost on Twitter and blogged by The Big Lead...
Joe Buck never made it to a World Series as a player. But he has
a feel for what St. Louis-bred David Freese is dealing with as he
plays in a World Series with the Cardinals.
