John Calipari is not a fan of the Southeastern Conference tournament. The University of Kentucky head coach reiterated this fact on Monday during an SEC teleconference.Calipari has gone on record in the past about his dislike for conference tournaments in general."I'm not a big tournament guy, don't like tournaments before the NCAA Tournament," he said late last season. "I don't like three games in a row."But is he signing a different tune now that UK might be in need of a good showing to get into the NCAA Tournament?"Not really," Calipari said Monday on the SEC coaches' teleconference. "I wish none of us played in the (SEC) tournament. Let's go on to the next tournament." There’s an importance to it that way — seeding or whatever else. But as far as playing in a tournament at this time, three games in three days, I’m not a big fan."Most experts predict the reigning national champions will receive an at-large bid regardless of how they play in the tournament. ESPN's Joe Lunardi currently has the Cats as one of the last four teams in after their upset victory over Florida last weekend. CBS Sports' Jerry Palm also has them as one of the last four teams in the dance. The young Wildcats will be gunning for their 29th SEC tournament title when they invade the Georgia Dome this week. They will have plenty of support as droves Kentucky fans historically make the trip down south to cheer on their team.Calipari, in his fourth-year at UK, said he believes the tournament is for Kentucky's rabid fan base more than anything."Fans spend their vacation money, their rent money, their cigarette money, and they go to this tournament," he said. "... You almost feel an obligation. Let's go play. UK fans are expected to dwarf other schools' supporters at this year's SEC Tournament in Nashville. Fan support can make a difference for any of the league's many relatively inexperienced teams.Via Kentucky.com

Poythress: Kentucky or NBA?

I know it’s a little early to be talking about the prospects of which Kentucky players will jump to the NBA or return for another year of school. Most can see Archie Goodwin already having one foot in the door of the NBA before the season started, and I believe he’s gone after this year. I don’t think Ryan Harrow will be on next year’s roster, either. I assume he will try...
